They took us out snorkeling and we got to see tons of reef fish and two stingrays. They were so friendly and caring and really made the experience memorable. I highly recommend! 1 Simpsons Watersports and Luminous Lagoon (Owner) 8 months ago Hi Justine, we are delighted that you enjoyed your experience with us and took the time to share your feedback. The tour did not pick us up and it was practically impossible to get in contact with someone. Don’t waste your time with this company. T D 17 reviews·4 photos just now NEW I've been on over 100 excursions on five continents, and this is by far the worst one (glistening waters) I have ever been on. The price was about $60 per person which consisted of a two mile drive from our resort and twenty minutes swimming in dirty water. Issues include: Driving delay- We were told we would be picked up at 7 and we were picked up around 7:40. When the driver did come, he said there was an issue with the original driver. To my knowledge, they never called the resort nor sent any other kind of message to let us know they'd be forty minutes late -Water- when I say the water looked nothing like the water In the photos, I mean it looked nothing like the photos. Instead of blue and green water, it was dirty brackish water that you could apparently only see glistening through a special cera lens -photos- of course you could only see the glistening waters through a special camera that one of the operators had and they charged you $40 for them afterwards.
Save your money and time- I've never even come close to having a worse...
Read moreWe booked this tour for the Luminous Lagoon swim with Viator while we were in Montego Bay. The driver Erron picked us up on time and was very knowledgeable about the area. He explained the history of Rose Hall and the geography of Jamaica. He told us the story of the Haunted Rose Hall Mansion on the drive and recommends that tour as well. Maybe next time. Erron was great! We drove about a half hour to the location which he does a lot. The roads are very narrow and they drive on the opposite side from the states (just an FYII and a little nerve racking) There were a lot of people in the area and I wasn’t sure we were going to the right place until I spotted the dock. Stay with your guide and everything will be fine. The people running the tour were super nice and professional. There were a bunch of boats in the same area doing tours as well. It is best to go when there isn’t a full moon as the light will make it harder to see the luminosity in the moving water. Hint - move away from the lights to the dark side of the boat when you are on the water. The water is fairly shallow where we stopped about 4 feet or so. They do have life vests for those that want one. The water was warm like Bath water in May and probably like that all year. Perfect. You can stand in it but there is a strange layer of something on the lake floor that feels squishy and a little slimey. The lake can stain you shoes and bathing suits - it may wash out. I wore black so nothing happened to mine. The tour does take photos while you are in the water- at $10pp for all pics. My hubby and I were in them Together so ours were $20 for all pics taken (about 10 pics) were airdropped to my phone. Bring cash- no CC or Apple Pay taken there. Also cash tips for crew and bus drivers recommended.
It was the coolest thing we have done as far as excursions go! The water glows when it is agitated- move your arms and legs - spin in circles - in the dark pull your arm out and look at the water you twinkle like you were dipped in glitter! We spent about 40 mins in the water then took the short boat ride back to the dock. So Cool! The guys tell you about how it works and where the fresh and salt water meet in the lake. Very fun and educational tour. Our driver waited there and drove us back to our hotel in Montego Bay. Just Do it - you...
Read moreI'm leaving an honest review as there's some really pessimistic reviews for this that almost put me off going and was definitely worth going. The boat trip was NOT overcrowded, plenty of room on the boat. The tour concludes when the last person got back on the boat, really was not rushed. I paid for this with the Martha Brae raft tour which as a combined, given the general high prices for excursions on the island felt like good value for money as a combined trip. Much like the northern lights, modern photography does enhance the experience, BUT that doesn't mean it's any less spectacular. This is a natural phenomenon that should be respected as a natural phenomenon. The bioluminescence is very much real and can be seen at night. No, it's not as bright as the professional photographs seem but is definitely visible with the naked eye. It requires work, for it to happen, I found you had to really move your arms and legs to take effect, so be prepared to exert some energy. I even found that it started to sparkle at points... The water sensation is very unique without the visual spectacle, be sure to appreciate the pockets of cold and hot water that suddenly change within inches of movement. The water is relatively shallow of which you can feel the base with your feet and has a unique feeling, so appreciate this also! The tour was well equipped with life guard, captain and photographer. Plenty of life jackets and they did not pressure people into doing it, if they didn't wish to. The spectacle is created by the mix of warm ocean water and cold fresh water. As such, this is seemingly doable all days of the week.
I hope this was useful, I found it to be unique and enjoyable. I would go with an open mind, manage your expectations and go with a positive mindset as a lot of the bad reviews here seem a bit unjustified...
