We read that this was free, but it’s not. It’s $20 per person and well worth it. Our guide told us that the $20 goes toward the local state elementary school (you see it as you walk up the river). You don’t need a guide, but I recommend it. The guide can assist with getting the ropes to swing from, showing you the best paths to cross the river, and how to get to the top. We probably wouldn’t have gotten to see everything had we gone without a guide. The guide also took photos for us and showed us unique plants and stuff.
They told us that we couldn’t bring bags because they would get wet, but you can definitely bring a bag and just put it to the side while you swim. You have to walk through the river at times, but you won’t get your bag wet as you do.
I went to give the guide 2000 and he told us they normally get paid 5000 Jamaican dollars, but he didn’t tell us in advance. I don’t know if that’s true or not. We gave him 4000 because that’s what we had, but probably better to establish the price ahead of time.
Highly recommend coming here! It’s also worth noting that you walk quite a ways to get to the big waterfall. There are two rope swings (they have handles) and two jump points (one low, one high - different locations). Also a few wonderful swimming points that are deep enough to...
Read moreThe team at Island Gully Falls were awesome!! They took us from jumping 6’ into the pools into jumping from 15-20’. They were very safety conscience and took their time with anyone who were too timid or decided ton to jump and gave them an easier way down from the top of the falls.
Pro tip: wear your bathing suit. Wear water shoes that have heels/straps and not sliders. Use a waterproof phone holder and for your valuables. Leave your backpack, towels, sunglasses, hats and dry clothes in your bus. Use sunscreen. Before your tour and reapply after. Have fun!! This is a natural water slide adventure. You will get soaking wet. Dress appropriately.
Additional information: we purchased our tickets as part of a Royal Caribbean cruise to Jamaica. Royal Caribbean gave very little valuable information about this excursion. They never highlighted that our tour number “5” had no relationship to the bus station “4”. Nor did they review the ticket information in the check in on the shampoo to the excursion. The tour operator staff was also less than helpful. They did not seem to know anything about the places we were scheduled to visit or give helpful information about what not to take and that the proper foot wear and a waterproof bag...
Read moreBeautiful place. Was a little crowded and felt a little rushed. We were immediately assigned a guide and (to our surprise) a photographer as soon as we got there (didn't realize there were pictures going going to be taken of us throughout the whole thing). I dont have a water proof camera so it was kind of nice to have someone else take pictures for us and not have to worry about keeping up with my phone for pictures. They were extremely friendly and you can tell they love their jobs. They basically take you to 3 different spots on the falls where you can jump into each lagoon. I'm somewhat afraid of heights and he was very understanding and respectful of that and gave me options of jumping from a lower height which was just enough adrenaline rush for me. The water was pretty cold, we went at the end of November. They did take some really great pictures of us and gave us the option to buy them on a disk at a negotiable/reasonable price. The tour guide even let me run back up to the car and get my phone so I could take pictures of the falls with my phone and he led us all the way back around to some great spots to take scenic pictures...
