It was a little unclear from other reviews whether this place is actually “open”. As of January 2025, the answer is “not really.” We were in Ocho Rios on a cruise ship stop and I was interested in checking this out. We encountered a gentleman who said he was a tour guide and offered to take us on a tour of the falls, so we followed him up the steep hill to the entrance.
There we met another guy who may be the person other reviews refer to as the caretaker. Between the two of them they decided how much to charge us for a tour. The first guy wanted to charge $20 a person. We negotiated down to $10 and $5 probably would have been more appropriate. We decided to do it, just because it was different and an adventure.
The tour itself only took about 15 minutes. The place was apparently hit by a hurricane a few years ago and nothing has been rebuilt or cleaned up. There are trees down across the trails and stairs. After we got a little ways up the trail, the river has been diverted by fallen trees and is running down the stairs. We weren’t wearing water shoes so we didn’t go any further.
Bottom line, this place is kind of interesting to visit, but know that it is essentially abandoned and the “tours” are being offered...
Read moreMy wife want to try somewhere different, something a little more quiet than dunn's River Falls so we founded this property that was once a resort. I was told it went out of business a long time ago but all the natural beauty remain. The waterfalls are not as big as Donn's River but size isn't everything. It has eight falls and alots of overgrown tree, all great for that one off a kind photo. On the property there is also a aviary with lots of beautiful exotic birds. The tour guide ask us to put our arms out and there were birds all over us, my wife scream like a queen that she is. Just a heads up if you go inside the birds are very friendly. If u want do something different and see more of Jamaica's natural beauty this is a great spot. I will upload lots of pictures from my visit. Also you don't have to worry about craft venders...
Read moreI went to turtle river a few years ago with family and it was the best experience for each and everyone of us. They have the falls, a pool, a koi pond and an aviary. Not to mention how educated and friendly the tour guide was. I went there three days ago (August 7, 2022) and we had to find somewhere else to go. I was disappointed 😞 with how the place looked, the reception area was in shambles and the only person on property was the grounds keeper. We were told that the aviary was no long there because a tree fell on it and all the birds flew away. So sad to see one of my favorite places to visit looking how it did. I wish I had taken a photo to share. I'm hoping that they get the help they need to repair all that is broken because this place was...
