Awajishima Anime Park — Attraction in Awaji

We had eagerly anticipated this trip for a long time, especially since USJ stopped offering Dragon Quest-themed attractions and gift shops. It had been on our Japan trip bucket list for a while. Getting to Awajishima proved to be quite a challenge. The directions to the Maiko express bus were confusing, causing us to miss our stop. We had to find our way back to the park or the starting point. We also discovered that there were no taxis available on Awajishima, so we approached a different express/local bus driver to take us to the nearest stop, where we could catch the right bus to the Anime Park. The bus driver was kind enough to help us, and we eventually hopped on a local free tram to reach the Anime Park.

Once we reached our destination, our worries were behind us, and we excitedly explored the park. My husband, a huge Dragon Quest fan, was particularly thrilled. Feeling hungry, we decided to visit Luida’s Bar to try their renowned menu. We each ordered different sets with drinks. The food was okay, but the drinks left much to be desired. It was disappointing that we couldn't keep the soup bowls. I wouldn't recommend their food or drinks.

Before heading to the attractions, we visited the gift shop, which turned out to be worth the visit. We had explored many DQ-related shops outside of Awajishima, but not all of them had the same merchandise as the park. We had a blast shopping for ourselves and picking up gifts. Because we made several purchases, we received limited edition DQ tote bags.

As we entered the Dragon Quest attraction, rain started falling, and we realized we had forgotten to bring an umbrella. Observing that many people had umbrellas, we assumed the venue was renting them out. However, the DQ venue staff informed us they didn't provide umbrella rentals. We couldn't leave and re-enter to buy one, so we improvised by using one of the DQ towels we had bought and continued with the game quest. My husband excelled in solving most of the quest. Fortunately, we had chosen the easy quest because attempting the harder one might have made us sick and unable to return to our hotel.

After completing the DQ quest, we decided to visit the Godzilla museum. Although I'm not a huge fan, we stopped by the museum and its gift shop to find some presents for relatives. If the weather hadn't been rainy and gloomy, we might have considered the Godzilla zipline.

The weather turned increasingly windy and cold, prompting us to head back to the parking lot and catch the Maiko Express Bus to return to our Kobe hotel. Unfortunately, I experienced motion sickness during the bus ride, which led to me falling ill and having to stay in the hotel to recover the following day.

To unwind on a bright sunny day, I decided to go to the nearby island: Awaji Island. It was my second expedition to this island and I think it is a really lovely place. I decided to go to Nijigen no Mori and go on a Dragon Quest adventure. To get to the island I had to find the correct bus and take a lovely ride over. The view was spectacular. Such a great day to go and get some fresh air. When I got to the location, I rested in the rest area at the foot of the site and enjoyed some local snacks and drinks. Once the place opened at 10am, I took the tram to the location. The attention to detail was great. It was such a fun feel having to travel to different areas, like in the game and collect things and defeat my enemies. I thought it was a cool feature I got to create my character at the start and level them up doing side quests. I'm glad I showed up early as it got quite crowded and with the heat something to contend with. The staff were all dressed up in character which I thought was amazing. I liked how you could get themed foods in the park. After I got some water I posted a picture to Instagram and got to play a game of roulette and I won some cookies. Everyone was super nice. I leveled up my character and teamed up with others in the park for the final battle with the dark lord. I thought it was cool out of the the people in my group that got to take a turn fighting the dark lord, I, and the party I created, came out number one. After getting my proof of accomplishment for this, I stopped in the cafe and got a warrior soda. The park was awesome and I want to go back and enjoy the other theme parks within this park.
