Japanese film director Ozu Yasujiro's cottage museum

Ozu Yasujiro, film director famous for movies like 'Tokyo Story' and 'Last Spring', owned a cottage in the highland resort of Tateshina where he spent the last years of his life. Both a studio and living space, after his death the cottage has been turned into a commemorative museum called Mugeiso. The cottage is built as a thatched-roof traditional farmhouse and is worth a visit even if you don't know Ozu. Mainly open on weekends during the summer....

映画界の巨匠「小津安二郎」氏が晩年の仕事場、友人たちと過ごす場として使用した（蓼科プール平）にある山荘のこと。 蓼科をこよなく愛し、蓼科の「無藝荘」で過ごし、蓼科生活の一番の楽しみとして、日に何度となく蓼科の疎林を散歩していたようです。 それを、「小津の散歩道」と呼ばれていて、現在では約4キロの遊歩道が整備されています。

「小津安二郎記念館・無藝荘」に来てみましたが、当日はあいにく休館日との事。 玄関前に管理されている方がいらっしゃいましたが、あいにく今日は鍵を持って来ていないとの事。 鍵があれば中を拝見させてくれそうな雰囲気でしたが。 そのおじさんは一所懸命、高さが2メートル以上ありそうな庭にある「タラの木」から、ちょうど食べごろな「タラの芽」を、懸命に採っていらっしゃいました。

微笑ましい姿を眺めながら「外観だけでも見ていいですか」と声を掛け、ゆっくり見させていただきました。
