The outdoor hot spring (rotenburo) is surrounded by Japanese maple trees, and you can enjoy the tranquil view from the bath. The staircase to get to the outdoor hot spring is rather long, so I imagine the access is not ideal for some people, but if you can handle the climb then it's a great experience. One of the best onsens that I have visited in Autumn season. Outdoor onsen on top has a very beautiful view of mountains. In Autumn, red leaves fall inside onsen making it more beautiful.
