Far and away the most luxe hotel with the best service that I've ever experienced. My husband and I were there for our honeymoon, and it was absolutely the highlight of our time in Japan.

Service: From the moment we arrived to when we sadly had to leave, the staff showed a level of service that I've yet to see elsewhere. When we got there, after they took our luggage, a staff member sat us down, offered us a drink, and then explained everything we'd need to know during our stay. After that, she took us took the room and gave us a little tour, making sure we knew everything we needed to know. This was exemplary of everyone we spoke to at Hatsuhana, from our wonderful servers at breakfast and dinner who explained everything in detail and had incredibly attentive care, to the front desk, who helped me with something by calling our next hotel after I had sent our luggage to arrive earlier than intended. Staying here was like getting a "rock star treatment."

Facilities: Everything in the hotel from the lobby to the room to the hallways and baths was incredibly beautiful and luxurious. The views were stunning, everything was modern, clean, and well taken care of. The room itself was stunning; we actually didn't end up going into Hakone proper for our full day there because we wanted to spend a whole day relaxing in our room (and loved it). The room was incredibly comfortable and updated, and it not only came with all the necessities (shampoo, etc.), but also had robes, snacks, juice, and more. We only used the private onsen, but it was so easy to make a reservation (it was part of our room booking process), and it was an incredibly relaxing experience. The lobby also had some free drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) if you wanted to spend some time outside of the room. Finally, we made use of the spa, and the couple's massage was so great that my husband actually fell asleep in the middle.

Food: At first I wasn't sure what we'd do for lunch, as only breakfast and dinner were included, but I didn't need to worry. The portions for both meals were HUGE, and it was some of the best food we've ever had. I'm a picky eater, but everything we had was fantastic, and beautifully presented.

Location: All the views from the hotel were incredibly gorgeous. It was an easy taxi from Hakone Yumoto station, and then they have a free shuttle to take you back to the station after check-out. There isn't much immediately available outside the hotel - the Open Air Museum, etc. is a half hour drive - but as previously mentioned, we didn't feel the need to leave the hotel for our 2-night stay.

We'll absolutely go back in the future; this place is special and is worth a splurge. Thank...

Very modern and relaxing ryokan. I went with my friends (5 people total). A lot of free amenities are available and staff will take your luggage to your room along with a room tour. The lounge has free drinks available until 10pm and with a 24/7 coffee machine available. The ryokan provides yukatas and a jacket for usage around the facilities. Pajamas for in-room use only is also available. The ryokan is accessible via the K-route bus or the shuttle bus. After your stay, the shuttle bus can take you to Hakone-Yumoto station so the remote-ness of the ryokan is not a problem. As an English-speaking group with very limited Japanese, the staff was very patient with us and did their best to explain things to us. Due to the language barrier, check-in took about an hour.

The kaiseki dinner was very good. The staff was very accommodating to one of my friends who was a pescatarian and even changed the kaiseki dinner to accommodate for her. However, they forgot during the breakfast and gave her other meats. We were able to use a 6-person room for breakfast but forgot to mention it to the staff for dinner (be sure to communicate with staff thoroughly).

Both public hot springs were phenomenal, spacious and very relaxing. These were definitely a big highlight for this ryokan. Free Asahi beer, chocolate milk, and popsicles are available after the bath. We reserved the private open-air bath during our stay (be sure to specify you would like that one since the private open-air bath books very quickly and if not specified, you may get a private bath that is not open-air). My friends that reserved an indoor private bath mentioned it was small and did not like the indoor feeling of the bath. Aside from the reserved private baths, the public and in-room baths are amazing and great to use.

We reserved two rooms, the comfort room and the deluxe room for our group of 5. The comfort room was very cozy and comfortable. The deluxe provided a lot more space despite the additional full-size daybed in the room. However, in both cases, the mattresses in the rooms was very hard and none of us had very good sleep due to this. Futons would be much better than the mattresses in the rooms.

Overall, the ryokan was a fantastic choice aside from the mattresses. If you are looking for a modern ryokan with great service, this is a very...

Odakyu Hotel Hatsuhana is a luxurious onsen/ryokan that was recently renovated and it showed on its amenities and price tag. We were there in Feb 2023 for 2 nights which included breakfast and 2 kaiseki dinners. The highlights were the large private open-air onsens. It was even more spectacular when it snowed on our last day.||||Most travelers will take the Romance Car to Hakone, we took the JR to Odawara Station and rented a car to explore Hakone. The hotel entrance/lobby oozed opulence: luxurious sofas, fire place, bottomless champagne/wine/coffee. We booked the Comfort room for JPY86,300 per night, it was actually the cheapest room here, yikes. Furnishings were new and comfy: lounge chair, HD TV, super comfy queen beds, large bathroom with separate bathing area before you hop into your own private onsen on the balcony, with a view of the majestic green mountain to boot.||||There are multiple public baths which we relished, but there are also 4 large private baths that you can RSVP (no additional fee) for 45 min sessions. Akari was nice but our favorite was def the Kawato private bath. It was open-air, quite large, and you are few feet away from the trees and the forest. We went there twice, the 2nd time it snowed heavily and the experience was surreal. Because it's a private bath, you can take all the photos and videos to your heart's content. There are endless supply of beers and milk, you just grab it from the mini fridges, no extra charge. There was a cable car that takes guests from their rooms to different onsen and various floors, so cool. ||||For the meals you can choose Western or Japanese Our Japanese BF was good, but the kaiseki dinners were fantastic: wagyu beef, shark fin soup, pasta, sushi, etc. Guests dine in their own private rooms. If you are still thirsty or hungry, the lobby offers 24 hr beer/wine/champagne/coffee, also afternoon snacks and desserts. During our 3-day stay we saw everything: rain, sun and then snow at the end. The snow made it hard to drive but it was spectacular for taking...

A truly beautiful place with breathtaking views of the mountains! During the fall, the foliage adds an extra layer of charm, making the scenery absolutely stunning. The ryokan is impeccably clean, and the attention to detail in every aspect of the accommodations is remarkable. The service staff were incredibly attentive, ensuring that every need was met with care and professionalism. This serene and tranquil location provided the perfect setting to relax and fully immerse myself in the beauty of Hakone. It was a rejuvenating experience that left me feeling refreshed and at peace.

Staying here was like getting a "rock star treatment." Facilities: Everything in the hotel from the lobby to the room to the hallways and baths was incredibly beautiful and luxurious. Thank you, Hatsuhana!

A truly beautiful place with breathtaking views of the mountains! During the fall, the foliage adds an extra layer of charm, making the scenery absolutely stunning. The ryokan is impeccably clean, and the attention to detail in every aspect of the accommodations is remarkable.
