「宇品灯台」元宇品公園内にあり、現役の灯台だ。元々は陸軍広島運輸部が宇品港を開くために作った「宇品島南端信号塔」だったらしく、戦後の昭和25年(1950年)に第六管区海上保安本部が灯台に改造したそうだ。老朽化のため昭和46年(1971年)に現在の灯台に建て替えらた。高さは約21mで水面から灯火まで約45m。レンズ(フレネルレンズ)は1895年にフランスで製造された年代物が現在でも使用されている。元宇品公園は宇品島にあり、原生林などある自然公園。ランニングやウォーキングなどできる。灯台のすぐ後ろに「グランドプリンスホテル広島」がある。

Despite Google telling me it's open all hours, when you get there it's locked up and looks like it had been for a long time. You can walk around the overgrown path around it's base...
