日立駅はわたしが高校生の時になんども利用したことがある駅。数十年たった今、リニューアルした日立駅が「朝日が美しく見える駅」「駅そのものが観光名所」ということを聞いたのがここ数年の間。ただ、日立駅までわざわざ行くことはないだろうと、しばらく忘れていましたが、日立方面に来ることがあったので時間を作って寄ってみることにした。

駅前ロータリーに駐車場があるのでそこに停めてみると、なんと30分以内は無料の文字が。駅前で30分無料？都心だったら絶対にありえない。恵比寿駅前の駐車場は400円/15分で目の玉が飛び出たものだ。とりあえずサクッとみて帰るだけなので駐車をして駅に向かいます。

わたしの記憶にある日立駅の面影はほとんど残っていません。唯一、平屋というのだけが日立らしさをかもし出している感じがします。

何と歩く歩道があるではないですか。わずか100m程度なので、必要なのかは疑問ですが、とりあえず歩く歩道にのって歩いて向かいます。

到着したのは太平洋を見渡せるガラス張りの駅舎。椅子がいくつかおいてあり、カップルや友達連れの方々がたくさんいて、写真を撮っている光景。以前の日立駅では考えられなかった光景ですね。たしかに海がきれいに見えるし、太平洋側なので朝日がきれいに見えることは間違いない。

ガラス張りの脇にはカフェがあり、海側を見ながらお茶している人、勉強している人、のんびり海を見ている人がいます。時間があればコーヒーでも飲んで感傷に浸りたいところですが、次の場所に行かなくてはならなかったので写真を何枚...
