OK so this thing is kind of a pain to climb, but it's worth it. You wanna talk "Out of the way" stuff in Japan? Yeah, this is that. At the top of the hill is a pretty nice view of the port and the mountain, but that's not exactly a rarity on Sakurajima. It does, however, have some lovely play structures. If you've got small kids, go here. Even if you're an adult, there's a pretty awesome slide you can ride down. Couple warnings though: The bathrooms are squat toilets. Also, there's no vending machine up there, so bring water. Especially if you climb in summer. Though in all honesty, if you have small children and try to make them make the climb without a car in summer, I think that MIGHT be a form of child...
