４５年ぶりに五色塚古墳にきました。 I came to this place for the first time in 45 years. When I was in high school, I came here on my way home from school and was hit by the sea breeze. The Goshikizuka Tumulus is a huge anterior-posterior tumulus built at the southern end of the Tarumi hill in the western part of Kobe City, in the southern part of Hyogo Prefecture, with the Akashi Strait below and Awaji Island on the opposite bank.

The Goshikizuka Kofun, “five colored tomb”, is the largest keyhole burial tomb in Hyogo Prefecture. all those steps lead to the terrace.. where you can look at the amazing view of the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge !! There is a free parking lot near the Tumulus. The entrance is free, they just need to measure your temperature and then you can visit this place freely.

Near Sanyo-Tarumi station JR. It’s easy to find. You need to register your name when you get to the site. You can ask the staff for an English pamphlet. He was really kind. I went there at 3pm on Sunday and there was practically no one. It was nice and quiet. I found the shape of the kofun peculiar. I never saw something like that. Really interesting. The view is spectacular. You can see the famous Akashi Bridge. I went with the bicycle. You can leave it next to the entrance.

必見の価値あり。 前方後円墳を再現したもの。 埋葬施設などは、発掘調査せずに再現してしまい、この古墳の中に、どのようなものが、埋まっているか、わからないとのこと。 明石海峡に面しており、古代、航海する船から見た古墳は、雄大な建造物に見えたことだろう。 それは、身内の人々には、誇りと安堵感を、外部の人々には、畏怖を感じさせたかも知れない。 堺・百舌古墳群の造営時の姿が垣間見える。 その意味で必見の古墳。 仁徳・応仁天皇陵なども、建造当時は海に面していた。 さぞや、雄大だったろう。 今で言う、新幹線が東京駅に入って行く際の、車窓から見える八重洲高層ビル群か。 以下、堺・百舌古墳群との関連で。 大和に来る国内部族、朝鮮・中国の人々は、多数の陵とその巨大さに、度肝を抜かれたと思う。特に海から来れば、さぞや圧巻だったろう。 万里の長城、洛陽の都に、少しでも対抗する意識があったかも知れない。 匹敵するものは、世界でも、ピラミッドくらいしかない。 一方、国内部族連合の「大和」に属する人々は、さぞかし誇らしかったろう。 大和連合体への帰属意識も高まったろう。 1000人で20年かかったという仁徳天皇陵。 仁徳陵以外にも、巨大古墳がゴロゴロかたまっている。 当時の国内部族連合体の大和が、どれだけ強大な国力を持っていて、豊かだったかを推測できる。 本当に、豊かだったんだと思う。 中国の蓬莱島は、日本だったのではなかろうか。 また、ピラミッドでは仕事を作り出す失業者対策という説が、有力になっている。 日本でも、強権的に陵を造らせたというのは、考えにくい。 祭りの、祇園・山笠・だんじりの山車などにも見られるように、「オラが地域の誇り」という感じで、造り上げたように思う。 戦後、街の誇りの再生ということで、大阪城も名古屋城も、市民の寄付で再建された。 各地の城の再建も、街の誇りからの要素が大きい。 過去の学説に云う、何でも、強制的に権力で造られたというのは、違うと思うがなぁ。

2022/5/22 3歳息子が神戸市立博物館で五色塚古墳に興味を示したので連れてきました。 公共交通機関だと、 JR垂水駅(徒歩13分ほど)かJR舞子駅(徒歩18分ほど)、 山陽電鉄霞ヶ丘駅(徒歩4分ほど)が最寄り駅です。 JR垂水駅から来る場合、駅前に安いコロッケを売っている鬼平コロッケやおはぎの丹波屋などがあるので、食べ歩きしながら来るのも楽しいかもです。 幼い子どもがいても何とか歩ける距離ですが、上り坂で階段などあるのでベビーカーはしんどいかもしれません。 この古墳の特徴は、とにかく見晴らしが良いところではないでしょうか。 訪れるたび清々しい気持ちになります。 そして、古墳の形がはっきりしているので子どもでもわかりやすいです(事務所に子供用パンフレットあり)。 見晴らしが良いので、子どもが大好きな電車・船・飛行機がいっぺんに見れます(古墳を見たあとはJR舞子駅まで歩いて、明石海峡プロムナードや橋の科学館などに行くと子どもは楽しめるかもしれません)。 少し残念というか気になるのは、五色塚古墳に葬られた人については、発掘調査したにも関わらず未だ詳しく解明されていない点です。 あと、個人的には隣りにある小壺古墳にも入れるようにしてくれたらいいのにって思います。 事務所内の展示が少しこじんまりしている感じがしますが、古墳はどこもこんな感じでしょうか。 古墳前方部の説明書きの前に四角い大きな石があるのですが、 その上に立って明石海峡大橋を背景に記念撮影すると良い感じで撮れます(何のためにある石かは不明)。 事務所裏にトイレあり(古いですが、綺麗に清掃されています)。 周辺に自動販売機やコンビニがないので、事務所内に無料で飲めるウォーターサーバーあり(めちゃくちゃありがたい)。 事務所前に屋根付き東屋とベンチあり。 しかし、古墳には日差しを遮るものがないのでめちゃくちゃ暑いです。 真夏の来訪時は熱中症にお気をつけください。

A bit of walk from the station, but the view at the top is superb. The tomb itself is a interesting piece about Japanese history. The staffs kindly explained about the tomb, the nearby bridge and some places to go in the surrounding area to us

Description
The Goshikizuka Kofun is a kofun burial mound located in the Goshikiyama neighborhood of Tarumi-ku, Kobe, Hyōgo Prefecture, in the Kansai region of Japan. The tumulus is the largest in Hyōgo Prefecture, and is estimated to have been built around the end of the 4th century and the beginning of the 5th century.
