Nice to visit if you are in the area. The beach is about a 15 minute walk from Akasaki station, but it’s probably more convenient by car. I came on a winter day and the beach was nearly deserted. It was very tranquil. Rocky beaches like this are fairly unusual in Japan so it was a nice break from the boring sandy beaches. Some visitors will recognize the “rustling” sound that pebbles make as the tide washes out. Here, that effect is intensified by the sheer size of the stones. If you stand in the right place, you can feel as well as hear the immense roaring of the stones underfoot.

At the entrance of the beach, there is a little box with markers provided. You can write your wish onto a stone of your choosing and throw it into the sea. Just return the markers when you finish. There is also a garbage receptacle for trash you may find on the beach.

Apparently there is a saying that “if the stones roar well (よく鳴る yoku naru) then your life becomes well (良くなる yoku naru).” So be sure to listen...

The sound of waves breaking into Nariishi Beach's round, smooth pebbles has a certain charm. This beachfront location is made even more charming by the repetitive, calming noise. Stacking large stones into small towers is a common game for visitors, which creates a relaxing and joyful mood. Because of the residents' continuous efforts, the beach is kept immaculately clean, making it a location that everyone who visits should value...

Interesting pebble beach. The "beach" is actually a large bank of pebbles of all sizes. People have taken to making pebble towers. Occasionally, local artists make pebble sculptures here. If you're passing, it's well worth a stop.
