Place worth visit to know the culture of ancient Buddhist temples in Japan. The nokogiriyama daibutsu looks very similar to the one located in Kamakura. Only the difference is Kamakura daibutsu is made of metal and shallow from inside. Nokogiriyama daibutsu is shaped out of single big rock. The construction is very much similar to the Indian ancient temple construction. There are 7 small Buddha statues sculptured on the same rock which explains the different types of meditation postures. Daibutsu is located on top of the Mount Nokogiriyama. There are two ways to reach Mount nokogiriyama. One way is reaching Mount nokogiriyama from Yokohama by ship+rope way. And the other way is by car taking the Umihotaru route constructed with in the sea. I have experienced both the journeys and the both are really interesting. Prepare or carry you own food and water before reaching mountain. There are very few vending machines and no restaurants located on the mountain.

We went here from Tokyo on weekends and this is one of the coolest place to visit. It is around 85Km from mid Tokyo and is easily assessable via car. You can either do short hike or hike from the bottom. You can keep up with your health by doing some hiking seeing the majestic beauty of ocean view. From the top, it is see some natural beauty of Japan which itself is very famous for. Must go place.

Good place to visit with family. Combination of devotional feel by visiting sitting and standing Buddha, small hiking with very good landscape and sea views from Summit. Better to carry water/food enough. Better to travel on fine weather days for good views. On the way from Yokohama to reach here, we pass through aqualine with about 20km bridge inside and over sea. Incredible construction.

The site contains 31 meter Budha statute carved out in nokogiri mountain, as well statutes of over thousand Buddhist disciples by the same artists. Another interesting thing about this site is , the sacred bodhi-tree sapling which was presented by India in 1989 is planted here . The Ashok Stambh(pillar) stands on this site, assuming it was installed same time when sapling was planted !!

You shouldn’t miss this huge beautiful Buddha in the middle of Nokogiri Mountains but steps ups and down from the mountain top parking will kill you. You should probably drive down the hill and park again at the middle hill parking after you visited Jikoku Nozoki “Peek into Hell” cliff. Otherwise you are tired like peeking into hell!!!

It’s 31.05m tall Buddha statue on the rocky cliff. The place is really peaceful with beautiful view of sea & plantation on the mountain. To reach there you need small hiking, which is really easy. Small temple souvenir shop & toile is available. It’s really beautiful in the spring season.
