A refreshing place with a nice view! Looking down directly from the view point, it literally is hell since all you see are trees and rocks! But when you look at the sea, it is really relaxing and breathtaking. Going up the peek point, you might encounter a really long line which everybody else is wondering about and still, no one ever dare to ask the people who are walking back down. (I don’t speak Japanese well was my excuse). After wasting probably 20 minutes of my time waiting, I decided to just walk straight. ‘Impatient?’ you might say but I was really glad I did. If you are about taking photos and all, then, yeah okay, stand in line but trust me, you wouldn’t want to waste your time there as the view is all the same. I mean, I was alone and no one was there to take a great shot of me anyway. After this stop, you can continue walking down to see the humongous buddha, which I learned is the biggest in Japan! Overall it was a great hike, recommended for anyone who needs exercise, who needs to de-stress, people who need alone time and for people who just want to go for a walk. After my walk here, I had always wondered why Japanese people are so afraid to ask other Japanese when they speak the same language. Maybe it’s their Culture?

Lovely view but I'm not keen on pecerious ledges to stand however if you are then go for it! The reason I'm not giving it a 5 star is because firstly it is a little bit of a money grabbing situation and because we didn't get to see everything (it was due to a land slip) you would think they may reduce the price a bit as the part that was closed off was the part I was dying to see so ehh...also due to them blocking off paths (that from what we where told had been cleared just not reopened) we where forced to walk back up the mountain up a dangerous road which I highly recommend you NOT doing although the views up along the road where rather breath taking.. Literally it was knackering ha. 😅 Also last bit of warning do NOT miss the train! We missed ours by 10mins, there is no re-entering after you have exited the area without repurchasing a ticket 'apparently' and we then had to wait 3-4hours for the next one... 😭 There are better places to see and visit but if you have the time and are wondering what to do for a day out near Tokyo do this but make sure you take a packed lunch/snacks and plenty to drink as there isn't much around!

Access: 2.9 kms/35 mins walk from JR Hota station Entry ticket: 700 Yen for adults Located in Mt Nokogiriyama. There are two hiking routes that takes you to the top of the Mountain. It takes around 60-70 minutes to reach the top. There are vending machines and some benches/shelter at the beginning of the trail (near Buddha statue) so you can enjoy your bento. There is ropeway that takes you to the top. Attractions: (1) the largest stone Buddha statue (carved in a rock) in Japan (2) 1500 small Buddha sculptures (restored from anti Buddhist movement) (3) Mountain summit: View of Tokyo Bay and Boso peninsula (4) Hell Peek Point: mountaintop that extends out from the cliff

A hidden gem where you can challenge yourself on heights. The "View of Hell" is the perfect name for the ledge/cliff that really questions you if you are actually afraid of heights. To get here you will have to take Mt. Nogokiri Ropeway cable care and hike a bit mostly flat paths and steep stairs. When you get to the "View", be careful climbing up and coming down as there are no stair steps but rails for you to hold on to. This is definitely a great hiking day trip as there are other things to look at around here as well such as the buddha statues and a Giant Buddha. Yes, even the weak hearted will be able to accomplish this.

Going up after it rains was good if you want less people around, but it was very muddy and recommended to take the cable car up and down. Even with the cable car, you will still have a ways to trek through before reaching the peak for your photo op. If you do intend to take the cable car back down, be sure to go early enough to go around and see all the views before they close the shrine gate to get back (4pm). I have to go back another day to see more. Also, try the black vanilla icecream🍦at the top ropeway station, delicious!
