The exhibition is really dated, most exhibits haven't been updated since the museum's opening in the early 1980s. (Sure, the facts displayed might not have changed, but the means to convey them have.) The entrance fee isn't exactly cheap; considering that, the overall experience is underwhelming. For people who don't read Japanese, it's hardly possible to follow. Not much explanation in English. While the website says there is a free audio guide (which we only noticed after our visit), we weren't offered one when we bought our tickets and there was no sign of an audio guide at the ticket counter. Read moreWhen I arrived I was met by a very unwelcoming lady and, despite my efforts to purchase a ticket speaking in Japanese, the lady seemed rude and was rushing me (despite there being nobody else in the queue).
The museum itself is large however the exhibits are outdated, dirty, and disorganised.
I was the first person to enter the museum on the day I visited, and despite this, the toilets were still dirty from the day before.
Generally, if you want to learn about the volcano you'll get the information you need, but don't expect anything amazing.
I really hope they clean the place up and modernise...
