There was a brief introduction of different orders of insects accompanied by a range of specimens, which greatly enriched my understanding towards their adaptations. Besides, the insects that are alive are shown by miscellaneous designs of terrariums, such as wood with a viscous liquid upon it, further demonstrating beetles’ ingestion of tree sap. I really appreciate this method of education. Moreover, the great deal of rare species displayed impressed me. Not only were they well-known species such as Dorcus titanus palawanicus, less-common species to me are shown. For instance, Platynocephalus arnaudi and Gymnopholus regalis. Although I am nowhere near being familiar with entomology, and there wasn’t a lot of detail explaining the different insects, I still highly recommend this museum to people who are passionate about insects. This is because a lot of knowledge about insects remains to be understood, and it would be an excellent experience to observe the diversity and amazing nature of insects in this...
Read moreThis was so worth the entrance fee? I honestly had low expectations thinking its a tiny place and we will be in and out in 15mins… BOY i was wrong their collection was EXTENSIVE!!
It was so extensive that I have never considered myself as scared of insects but i saw so many species and HUGE variants for the first time that I freaked out. And then the relatively large area made it worse as I was like why is this place so darn huge when can i get out of here (real HAHA).
My partner (male) was in heaven fr he was so fascinated with every collection especially the roaches and beetles (good for him). Overall we would definitely come again, just that you might have to blind fold me every 5mins for a break.
We came on a rainy day… (otw to minoh falls tbh) and we ended up not making all the way up to minoh due to the rain. But visiting this place did not make us feel like it was a wasted trip! Not sure how is crowd like on a typical day, but when we went it was super empty and we had so much fun having a...
Read moreWhile deciding what to do today and considering Minoh park, I saw that it has an Insectarium and immediately knew that I must visit it. And this was possibly the best decision I've made on this trip so far.
The insectarium is small, but the entrance price is cheap - only 280 yen. There were so many cool, live insects that seem to live in nicely prepared terrariums with places to hide. I was able to see most of the insects when I was visiting, so that was nice. There wasn't a lot of English, but you can easily translate Japanese signs if you want more info.
My favorite part was the butterfly garden. I didn't expect to see so many different butterflies, they were so beautiful! Maybe I'll change my pfp to a buttefly from this Insectarium, hehe.
Overall, if you're visiting Minoh park, I'd definitely advise you to visit the Insectarium. Especially if you have kids, but I enjoyed it as an...
