Chikubu Island — Attraction in Nagahama

An island on an island. Pulling into the harbor of Chikubu Island is like stepping back into a bygone era. This island on Lake Biwa is home to the oldest of the three great Benzaitens of Japan. Benzaiten is the only goddess of seven Japanese deities and is usually depicted with a biwa, the Japanese lute which Lake Biwa is similar to in shape. Pleasant place to visit. Its a nice 25 minute ferry boat ride to the island from Nagahama. The accessible part of the island has some steep steps up to a shrine and a temple. There is nothing dramatic about the place but it does have some fascinating history and is worth checking before you arrive. Its considered a national treasure and each time I have visited there are craftsman working on one of the structures. By the dock there is a small cafe selling drinks and snacks. The view is super beautiful, I took a ferry from 彦根港 Hikone Port which cause 3200 Yen now, some broucher still write 3000 Yen. Then there was another 600 Yen ticket necessary to enter the temple.
