Nagoya City Museum — Attraction in Nagoya

After living for almost 9 years in Nagoya, I decided to visit the city museum just recently. A bit late, but it turned out to be good, cause during these 9 years I learned a lot of places names and history, that made it easier for me to understand what is shown in the museum. Everything was interesting, the items were ordered chronologically, and with my upper-medium level of Japanese language, I could read and understand many of the explanatory boards. I give 4 stars here cause I think they should have more of English explanation on the boards. I could comprehend most of what's written but for a foreigner visitor with minimum or no Japanese language reading ability, they would miss most of explanation. Other than that I absolutely recommend all foreign residents in Nagoya to visit the museum. Since taking photos is prohibited inside the museum, I share these photos from the entrance...

「水木しげるの妖怪 百鬼夜行展」を観にいきました。私が訪ねた日は平日だったにも拘わらず老若男女、実に多くの人が来場していました。妖怪は年齢性別に関係なく実に多くの人に人気があると改めて実感しました。 展示のメインは言うまでもなく水木先生の妖怪画ですが、それ以外にも鳥山石燕著の『画図百鬼夜行』や竹原春泉斎著の『絵本百物語』など水木先生の古書コレクションも展示されていて非常に興味深かったです。中には厚さが15cmほどもある井上円了著の『妖怪学』という本もありました。この本は井上博士が妖怪を否定するために書いたものですが取り上げられている妖怪の数はこの本が一番多いのだそうです。水木先生もこの本を色々参考にしたそうなのでなんとも皮肉な話ですね。余談ながらこの井上円了という人は、今の東洋大学の創立者であり、今も東京都に残る哲学堂公園を造った人でもあります。 他にも会場では水木先生の妖怪画の創作方法の３つのパターンが紹介されていてとても興味深かったです。その３つのパターンとは何だったか？知りたい方は是非会場に足を運んで下さい。 2023.９.８

This was a very interesting visit! We went for the DC Exhibition which cost ¥1500/person. Everything was in English so we were super excited and took many pictures! The gift shop is also great. We spent ¥4000 each on super cute stuff. They even had a Batman kimono that we wanted to get but it was ¥70,000. They also have permanent exhibitions on the 2nd and 3rd floors.
