Lovely little morning (or afternoon) pick-me-up for anyone in the area who can receive & follow basic safety instructions in Japanese. We booked for two quite spontaneously just a day in advance (called Sat morning for Sun morning tour) and got flawless service. Guides were really friendly, knowledgeable and approachable and my favourite thing was that the tour did not feel "over" guided - just the right amount of guidance was given for everyone to enjoy at our own leisure, while at the same time questions were answered promptly and support provided where needed. It was my first time kayaking and while I often tend to find beginner-friendly activities a little boring, this was a genuinely enjoyable introduction to the sport and super good value for money (especially with the recent Hokkaido tourist discounts). Best way to visit the Blue Cave imo and an Otaru must if you are able! Definitely beats the motor boats and right by the bus stop too, highly recommend. We tried calling them 2 times, once thru the local tourist info desk and both times they refused point blank to take us as we didn't understand the language and they do not know English. I was trying to explain that we are expert swimmers and can manage with the most basic instructions but to no avail. 2 star for this experience. But no shop available at the sea beach. Toilet is available at the sea beach. Kayaking is also available. Nearby hills you can track which is very nice with full of veggies farm.
