I love this place, I took my friends and my son. I compare it to Jurassic Park but with bears! You rode on an armored bus through the bears territory as the bears chill out in the large natural area.
I know it is animals kept in captivity, but as far as I know these bears have been rescued as they are problem bears that have continually entered human areas so would usually have been euthanized.
Here they have plenty of space, with trees, streams and waterfalls, ponds and loads of food and tasty tourists to eat.
It is well worth the trip as you get to safely see just how big and dangerous there creatures are up close. It is fun trying to work out the names of the bears you see as you have a guide book with their descriptions in it.
I suggest you return on the elevated walkway back from bear point, but you are going to have to be lucky to see a bear up close...
Read moreWent there before closing time and got the last bus tour of the day. They basically have people in 4x4 chasing the bears close to the bus route. Yes you will see bear up close but I believe you are probably better of going to a zoo to see a bear in a small enclosure where he is at least left alone.
on my way back to the exit I heard the workers shout and rev the engines of the 4x4 loudly at the back. We suspect the bears don’t actually stay all the time in the big enclosure but might be kept somewhere else at night.
This place is just an (expensive)tourist attraction to see bears. Don’t expect any ‘research ‘ or interesting information about bears is English. The staff only speak Japanese and seemed to have a lot to talk about but unfortunately I...
Read moreInteresting place to learn and view the bears of Hokkaido. The staff are passionate about the bears and know them well. The park has a walking route and a bus route. The bus route is pricier but, you'll prob stand a better chance to see the bears as the guide/driver will point them out to you.
The highlight is the bear observatory where there is a huge glass panel and you can watch the bears take a dip in the pool and be fed by the keepers. Quite a nice experience and something different from the usual zoo.
You'll have to drive quite a distance though as it is located at the...
