Great location to start your walk about- view the giant Goddess of Mercy Statue then on to the shrine. Walking further past the souvenir shops would bring u to a route through the park/forestry reserve area with some stunning views of a suspension bridge. Quite a walk so do go prepped with walking shoes n light gear with a light jacket just in case the wind acts up. After approximately 45-60 mins into the walk there is a turn off on the left which is signed (unfortunately only in Kanji) which denotes the route down a series of broad steps to the caves. There’s refreshments n a short tour at the caves if one is interested. In front of the caves is a bus stop which one can catch the direct bus back to Takasaki Station, near to the stop is a nice Cafe situated opposite across the road from the bus stop. It serves excellent tea/coffee n cakes- a nice finishing touch to a great walk about. The owner is very friendly, welcoming and very helpful. They also do great dinners but we did not have the benefit of time to experience it. It was a wonderful day trip to experience...

There are also lanes of stores branching off from the statues location. some sell the same items at different prices so look around first if you've got the time. There is a superstition that if you take your boyfriend/girlfriend with you, the statue get jealous and will separate you. Even if you think you're with the love of your life and your love is stronger that some old superstition....well, i'll...
Read moreNice to see it from afar, looks nice, but I would put something else on the list if you want to visit just here. As in, if you plan to come here to see this, add something else in the area as this was a bit more underwhelming than I had originally anticipated.
If you smoke, there is an ashtray at the base of the statue Infront, something you won't really see at places like this.
PS.(The guy who writes your Goshuin is one of those that has a...
