Nice experience, unfortunately we had clouds so we didn't see the view but the children experienced snow for the first time. Now that I've done it, if you're driving I'd recommend parking at the middle station and just taking the upper ropeway up and down. The lower ropeway is often full (they use a smaller car) and there's not much of a view. The upper ropeway uses a double deck car, I'd recommend just going in the lower deck cos there are usually fewer people and the view is the same (possibly even better?). In terms of food, there's more choice at the top station (ramen, curry, stew, croquettes, etc.) but seating is a little limited so best to wait for everyone to rush off to catch their car down and then grab a seat. There's a bakery at the middle station where there is a smaller selection (just breads and drinks) but there is some nice seating here with couches in front of floor to ceiling windows, and usually quite a lot of space as most people are just...

They wouldn’t let us buy a one-way ticket and walk down because we didn’t have the gear they require as signaling competency. But we are experienced trekkers and don’t need this private company to babysit us while we visit a national park. Our hiking shoes were sufficient for the task—we don’t need high ankle hiking boots and clothes that are mountaineering style to signal we are serious. A hiking clothing company sponsors the place. First ride was useless—should’ve driven up to the higher lot. Top of the ropeway had multiple constructions that filled the air with noise. It would have been nice for their website to warn about this. Had a nice walk at the top, but it was too short as we expected to walk down and thus didn’t plan around their last trip down. Lots of food at both of the upper stations. Nothing visible...

This is no doubt going to be one of my most memorable excursions, every time I have visited Japan it’s always been during summer so this time I got a chance to spend a couple of weeks during winter, we get snow where I live but this is the next level and Shinhotaka Ropeway was absolutely stunning, I was in total awe of the beauty and spectacular scenery, if you ever get a chance I thoroughly recommend this excursion, if breath-taking beautiful scenery is your thing the this is for you, word of warning though if you do go during winter I strongly recommend plenty of warm clothes as the day we were there it was -13 degrees and if you can, invest in a pair of ice spikes that attach to the soles of your shoes and just gives you more balance and confidence walking on icy surfaces-...
