Sigh.
I came here the first time when there used to be no wall. I came on a stormy night, actually, and witnessed once-in-a-lifetime views of thunderstorms in the distance because there was no wall. I'll never forget that experience.
So, I came back today just to enjoy the night scenery despite there being no thunderstorms. I was so disappointed to see that they put up a wall.
I tried to make out a posted sign for the new wall in my limited Japanese, and apparently some dolt(s) launched a drone near the onsen.
It's not the customers' faults. It's the drone user's fault. There should be signs on the other side of the river posted about drone use and a heftier penalty fee for being caught with using a drone for taking pictures or videos of patrons. Why punish your customers like this? Punish the a** properly instead.
Because of the wall, I don't consider this onsen that special anymore. Without it in the daytime on a clear day, you can see the mountain view and even Mt. Fuji if you're lucky.
If you enjoy the baths for what they are without needing a view, then you're good to go here. They have a massive library and the onsen looks quite beautiful too.
I just prefer onsen with views of the...
Read moreCrowded and noisy! But what do you expect, this is metropolitan Tokyo after all. Opens until 1am, very crowded even on weeknights, packed with youngsters looking for a soak after (or before?) a night out. All this I don't mind, it is difficult to find natural onsen without venturing far outside Tokyo in the first place (yes, this is natural, not just a public "bath"). Next closest natural springs is probably Mount Takao, almost an hour farther west. My biggest complaint is the bathing pools. In most places the pools are big and open whereas here, likely due to the crowds, they are actually partitioned/subdivided so you are forced to stay in your little "seated area" with railings to mark the seats. This is true for both in and outdoor pools and feels rather...
Read moreSpacious onsen in Kunitachi overlooking the river. The clothes lockers are large and don't require coins. There is nice shampoo, body wash, and conditioner. We came during Golden Week so it was quite busy and holiday pricing was 1200円. There is a shelf for towels as well as a drinking fountain. There are hot indoor and outdoor baths, a large cold bath, sauna, steam bath with rubbing salt, lie-down baths and jet massage baths. We also ate at their restaurant which has a wide variety of meals at a good price. I'll definitely return here when I'm...
