Hijikata Toshizo Museum — Attraction in Tokyo

土方歳三の生家 土方歳三が函館から戦死する近くまで持っていたとされる 愛刀　和泉守兼定（公開不定）をメインとした展示が見学できます。こちらは佐藤彦五郎側から生家に遺品が無いと贈られた刀と言うお話もあります。

池田屋事件使われたとされる装備、土方をイメージした榎本武楊の書、生家の石田散薬の資料など展示は様々。 特に愛刀の和泉守兼定はほぼ確実に人を斬った刀としても見る事が出来、重厚感と言うより幅が細くやはり実戦で使い易いシャープな印象。恐らく人も殺めた刀ですが内に秘めた美しさを感じます。 柄も当時のままで土方に握られすり減った箇所も確認出来、実際に使われていた生々しさが伝わります。欠けもあったそうですが、そこから錆が発生する為、研ぎで修復されています。 他にも新選組関連の書などありますが１５分程で交代となるので 見たい物から先に見学をお勧めします。

朝１０時開館ですが、他記念館で遺髪公開と重なり 朝９時には３０人程並んでいました。

Birthplace of Toshizo Hijikata It is said that Toshizo Hijikata carried it with him from Hakodate until he was killed in battle. You can view an exhibit centered around his favorite sword, Izumi no kami Kanesada (opening date unknown). There are a variety of exhibits, including equipment said to have been used in the Ikedaya Incident, Takeyo Enomoto's calligraphy depicting Hijikata, and materials from his birthplace, Ishida Sanyaku. In particular, his favorite sword, Izumi no kami Kanesada, can almost certainly be seen as the sword that killed people, and rather than being heavy, it has a narrow width and a sharp impression that is easy to use in actual combat. Although it is a sword that killed a person, I can feel the beauty hidden inside. The handle is still the same as it was back in the day, and you can see where it has been worn down by Hijikata, giving you a sense of the freshness of how it was actually used. Apparently there was some chipping, but since rust would form there, it was repaired by sanding. There are other books related to the Shinsengumi, but they will be replaced after about 15 minutes. We recommend that you visit the things you want to see first.

A very small museum, but it has many items used to be owned by Toshizo himself, including a sword and his protectors. Only open on the first and the third Sunday of the month.
