Tetsugakudo Park — Attraction in Tokyo

Tetsugakudo Park is a beautiful and peaceful oasis in the bustling city of Tokyo. The park is home to a large pond and a number of stunning cherry blossom trees, which make for a breathtaking sight in the springtime. The rhododendron flower (Tsutsuji) hill is especially pretty in May and gorgeous hydrangea (Ajisai) in monsoon season. The park also has a number of temples and shrines, which add to its peaceful atmosphere. I'm not sure if they still do, but when I was in junior high, we were able to rent one of the structures for a tea ceremony.

Tetsugakudo Park has six tennis courts and two baseball fields with night lights, allowing for use during the night. The park also has a Japanese archery club and a children's park.

One of the highlights of Tetsugakudo Park is its "Philosophy Path," a winding stone path lined with quotes and teachings from famous philosophers. It's a great place for a leisurely stroll and to clear your mind. The "Yurei/Yokai (ghost) Path" was my favorite when I was a child.

Although, Tetsugakudo Park is not a must-visit destination IMO, it is for anyone who loves nature and wants to find a little bit of tranquility in the daily life in the heart of Tokyo. Me and my wife visited in this beautiful place last weekend. It has lots of old sculpture which is very rare to see in a open park in Tokyo. Moreover there are lots of old style houses in this area which brings us a thought that how beautiful and simple life was in Tokyo...

Note: We could not get out because all the doors to get out were closed. It was supposed to close at 5 pm but all of the gates closed earlier. We were freaking out. we were shouting in fear in the door but nobody even came at us. After 20 minutes an old man helped us to get out of the park by telling us the direction of the next-door sports zone. I don't know what would have happened if the man did not come...

哲学堂公園は1904年に東洋大学創立者で妖怪学博士としても有名な哲学者の井上円了により創設されました。哲学や社会教育の場として哲学世界を視覚的に表現できるように整備された全国に例を見ない個性的な公園で、古建築物や施設の整備に15年ほどかかっているそう。 園内には77場の哲学に由来する形や言葉の付いた建築物・石造物・池・道などが点在しています。 梅林区域には、宗教・哲学・法を代表する人物が同心円上に配置された哲学の庭という興味深い彫像群があるのですが、撮影禁止みたい…写真は哲学堂公園オフィシャルサイトで観られます。 哲学堂公園の歴史は、主な古建築物を見渡すことのできる時空岡に最初に建設された四聖堂からはじまります。 四聖堂は専門学校であった哲学館が、東洋大学の前身である私立哲学館大学として認可された記念として建てられたもので、孔子・釈迦・ソクラテス・カントという世界の哲学者４人が祀られています。哲学堂とも呼ばれており、これが公園名称の起源だそう。 堂内に安置されている釈迦涅槃像は、円了のご子息が戦争で亡くなった友人を供養するために作ったそうですが、お堂ができなかったためここに置かれているのだそう。 三層六角形で朱塗りの六賢台は哲学堂公園のシンボル的建築物で、東洋の六賢人として中国から荘子・朱子、印度から龍樹・迦比羅仙、日本から聖徳太子・菅原道真が祀られています。 円了が３回の世界旅行と30万人に全国巡講したおり蒐集した各地の品々を展示しているのが無尽蔵。１階は万象庫、２階は向上摟と名づけられて博物館の機能を担っていますが、現在は六賢人の肖像画や蒐集品の一部のみで大部分は中野区歴史民俗資料館や東洋大学井上円了記念博物館に所蔵・展示されています。 時空岡の奥には哲学世界への正門にあたる哲理門があり、本来はここから回るみたい。哲理とは人生や世界の本質など奥深い道理ということで、それらを探究することが哲学なのだそう。門の両脇には心の世界の不思議を表す幽霊と物の世界の不思議を表す天狗の木像が置かれ、別名妖怪門といわれています。 円了は哲学は宇宙の真理を研究する学問であるとも考えていたそうで、哲学上の講話や講習会を行う講義室として建てたのが宇宙館。中央の聖徳太子立像は釈迦涅槃像と同様にご子息により設置されたものなんですって。 絶対城は円了の蔵書を中心とした書籍を公開する図書館で、１階右側の書棚に国書・漢書、左側に仏書を収蔵していました。現在は公開されていませんが、読書後の休憩場所として屋上に観察境が置かれています。かつてはここから富士山が望めたんですって。観念脚と呼ばれる２階閲覧室は畳が敷かれた落ち着いた雰囲気で、婦人専用の閲覧室も設けられています。 四聖堂・六賢台・無尽蔵・宇宙館・絶対城の古建築物は、春期と秋期および月例に公開されており、自分の来園した第１日曜日が月例公開日だったようです。付いていましたネ。時間は月によって異なるそう。 かなり難しい概念を聴いた直後に具現化したモノを目の当たりにする不思議さ？オモシロイというかモヤッとするというか…哲学堂公園には本来きちんとした歩き方があるみたいですので、次回はちゃんと巡ってみようカナ。考え方が変わるかも？ 中野通りの桜並木から連なる哲学堂公園は、都内でも有数の花の名所で四季折々の風情を楽しめる憩いの場としても多くの人々に親しまれており、公園北側の敷地には体を使って楽しめる野球場・庭球場・弓道場もあります。難しいことばかり考えていると結局体...
