Fantastic living museum. Artisans on site crafting everything from footwear to wooden baskets. Only some of the signs had English translations, but we used Google translate and that worked well. Hidden gem sightseeing spot in Aichi. There were not too many people like Kyoto so we had very quiet and tranquil time. I highly recommend this place if you are interested in architecture, crafts and culture. Great place to visit while in the area viewing the fall leaves. Before the pandemic the little village square area transforms into a little fair grounds with beer and sake stands, yatai and sweets for sale as well as the living museum buildings and exhibits. 香嵐渓に紅葉を見に行ったのですがまだ早くこちらに訪れました。 昭和初期の様子が見てとれてとても良かったです。

秋の紅葉を観に来たついでに立ち寄りました。 昔ながらの日本の文化の展示や、物作りの色々な体験が出来ます。 今回私は、鍛冶屋さんで『五寸釘からペーパーナイフを作る』体験をさせていただきました。 本当に五寸釘を炭の炉で熱して、真っ赤になった先の方を金槌で叩くという事3回ほど繰り返して、平たく伸ばして刃物にしていく工程の体験。 映像などではよく見る作業で、一度やってみたかったものの、打ち方が均等でない為思わぬ方向へ曲がっていったりと中々上手くできませんが、そこは先生がちゃんと修正してくださるので大丈夫。 銘を入れていただき、綺麗に砥いで刃を立たせてもらって素敵なペーパーナイフが完成しました。 革製のナイフキャップもつけてもらいました。 先生がとても優しく丁寧に説明してくださって安心して体験できました。 予定外の体験でしたが、大満足です。 ありがとうございました。
