Went here out of a random walk and it did not disappoint.
The normal entrance fee is 1000 yen for adult (They have 20% discount at the time of my visit and there are also annual pass sold for around 4000 yen, which I am considering buying.
The contents of the museum are mostly Japanese, but they also have other fun activities such as educational movie, science lab, and a cinematic movie with moving seat (The movie itself is not too good since the manuvers were normal and the movie was in low resolution), and also flight experience flying YS-11 simulator for about 12 minutes (and they will take a picture of you and give you a pilot wings if you manage to get 5 stars in the simulator).
Aside the museum, you also have access to an observation deck which is a great place for photographers to take aircraft picture. This is probably why they sell annual pass. The observation deck itself is pretty comfortable to hang out at with several seats in place. I am actually thinking of bringing a laptop and work here.
At the end of the museum, there is a gift shop full of Blue Impulse merchandise. Oh, and also there is a small cafe inside but I don't think anyone bothers to eat/drink there since the place is next to a mall with a lot more option.
Overall, it was a great experience. Will most likely buy the...
Read moreWent here as part of a tour, probably would not have been there otherwise as it was very out of the way. Pretty standard, interesting aviation museum. Had a fair few planes on display including both modern and historical aircraft, even a restored WWII fighter jet, all of the planes were quite interesting and a few of them were available to look inside. There seemed to be more available to do and look at however when we went most of it was closed (late on a weekday). Some of the information was not available in English, but all of the plane’s names were written in English.
The tarmac was visible from the museum and it is possible to see planes taking off from the lower floor of the hanger.
I would recommend the museum for locals or those visiting the nearby airport, however if you are visiting Nagoya I would consider it a little too...
Read moreIn the region the Aichi Museum of Flight is second only to Gifu-Kakamigahara Air and Space Museum, and well worth a visit if you're interested in things that fly. Located on Nagoya Airport's runway, you can see domestic flights landing and taking off, as well as the occasional Japan Self-Defense force aircraft. The Museum has roughly ten full size, decommissioned aircraft you can see up close, and most of which you can go inside (three require registration for a guided tour). There is a good amount of information in English, and special activities (best to register in advance as they often fill up before the day) that are great for kids. It's also right next to one of the biggest malls in the area, so convenient for shopping. It's about 20-25 minutes by bus or bicycle from Kachigawa Station on the JR Chuo Line, if you're not...
