A really nice side attraction for foreign tourists who miss their furbabies, and really more of a Japanese place to get all the love one can get from a dog (or cat) for a relatively decent price rather than going to a cat or a dog cafe in Tokyo where the charges are exorbitant. Also here is a retirement village (or retirement daycare) for the animals, a vet, a veterinary school, a dog training school, a school that gives people certification for dog training and obedience, a dog park, rent-a-dog for walks (for 20 minutes), and a small performance area to showcase dog talents.
Although access from the bus is really awful (a kilometer away from the bus stand and its sparse schedule), this was an actually nice place even though it looks a bit dated and smelling like dog or cat pee/poop. It's meant for the locals and for training purposes, but you can ignore everything else when you have the charm and novelty that should be applied to animal hotels and animal parks...
Read moreIf you're a lover of dogs, the experience is worth it. I would say it was quite expensive to travel, pay entry, and then pay extra for the dog walking rental, food etc. But we didn't mind because the money will help the upkeep and health of the dogs. Many different breeds. We prefer big dogs and had a great time walking and playing with them. The small dogs were also sweet, a bit loud. Allowing treats and toys to play with the dogs could make it better for everyone. The big dogs chewed the benches a lot which showed boredom and desire to play. The dogs do naturally prefer the company of the staff, but if you're patient and take the dogs on a walk they do appreciate you more (which is understandable). Would...
Read moreI visited this park in August.
Its rather troublesome to get here if you don't have a car. You can take the bus from Tsukuba station or from Tsuchiura station. Both are atleast 40 mins away.
The park was smaller than I expected.
The petting area is divided between big dogs and small ones.
The rental doggy walk area has big, medium and small sized dogs. 1000¥ for 30 mins and you are responsible for picking up after them.
A lot of the dogs seemed to be dehydrated and they didnt have water in their bowls in the cages. I walked a pug and a pekineese dog. They both looked very hot and weren't very up for going out for a walk. The pug walked around a bit and fell asleep in my arms later and the pekineese refused to walk and tried to hide in the shade.
This is an okay place to go with kids but it kinda smells. Don't think...
