This is a shrine dedicated to the blessing of giving safe birth to the future children. My wife and I have visited numerous times and of course are set to head back with our own children. At the back of the shrine is a collection of rocks (Koyasu-no-ishi). Prior to giving birth, parents will borrow a rock from this collection, which was put there after the birth of their own child. The rock usually has the name, date of birth and a description of what they hoped for their child. The borrower of this stone uses it like a charm in the hope they too have a safe birth. And once that child arrives, the borrower finds a new rock of their own from anywhere, marks their rock with similar details and returns both rocks to the pile for the whole cycle to continue.
