I drove all the way from Tokyo to see the snow monsters and the weather was just as expected. "Bad" is not good enough a word to describe the terrible weather at the top. However, there are some snow monsters (trees with lots of snow/Ice on them) near the station and they look pretty good. This statue is more than 2 meters tall and was covered in snow till the neck.
I can't comment on the course but go up with a good pair of gloves and a camera you can operate with your gloves on. Otherwise, you can be sure that your fingers will freeze in the super cold winds. Cover your head well and wear glasses at all times because the white-outs will affect your vision. Do not even think about crossing the red ropes because if you lose your way, you will freeze to death. This is mother nature at its prettiest and ugliest at the same time.
