I had such a wonderful time in my recent stay at jamoo.
First of all, there was the quietness, the calmness of the place at night from, at least, 9PM or so onward – so therapeutic for sleeping. Hearing only some gentle cricket and/or other insect sounds outside my room’s open, screened windows.
And then there was the naturalness of the construction materials – the real-wood flooring, the walls made of diatomacious earth, and so on.
And the natural products – body soap, shampoo, conditioner – in the ofuro, fine for my sensitive skin.
And the freshness of the air, inside and outside the building.
There was also the excellent vegan cuisine – with many subtle flavors – prepared by the female host, and including what I would described as French-influenced vegan cuisine, which is very difficult to find, in my experience, in Japan. As a vegan, I was very grateful for these culinary experiences, and I’m sure that non-vegans can enjoy them very much as well.
Both the male and female hosts (who own this pension) were very helpful with arranging convenient times for the breakfast and dinner meals and for the ofuro.
And the male host showed me a trailhead on Google Maps that follows a beautiful trail leading, after about 15 to 20 minutes, to a nearby lookout point that has a wonderful view of Mount Fuji and Lake Yamanaka.
My room was clean, with a very comfortable bed, and had a nice, casual sofa as well.
And the yard and surrounding area has many trees.
Considering the many aspects of my wonderful experience of staying at jamoo, I enthusiastically recommend jamoo for a healthy, relaxing stay...
Read moreThis property and the owners are wonderful. They arranged a pick up from the bus stop for us due to our evening arrival. Even though my partner and I only know a few Japanese phrases so far, we felt very welcomed and the owners patiently explained about the room, amenities, and meals. They are available for information about the area, also, and seem to be well known.
About the meals: this is an excellent choice for vegetarian or vegan guests. I am traveling with someone with a vegan diet and there were plenty of different dishes to try in the breakfast and dinner offerings. I found both meals to be flavorful, filling, and beautifully presented. Coordinate with the host prior to arrival and then you can pay the additional cost on site. The common dining area is calming and comfortable.
Walking about 20 minutes downhill to the lake, there is an antique shop and a bicycle rental shop in the area. The workers at both are so pleasant and we enjoyed the opportunity to cycle to and around the nearby town. Unfortunately Fuji was hidden in the clouds...
Read moreRooms were slightly small and simple but had a 'European' feel to them. The bath/shower was a very simple showa style home bathroom. A hot tub prepared for each set of guests. Toilets are also shared. The lounge dining area had a lovely homely and airy feel to it. The owners were friendly. I requested a vegan menu and they produced a wonderful breakfast. For extra payment, and booked beforehand, they can also prepare dinner too. It was a lovely menu and very delicious. Would definitely like to stop there again. The road leading to the place is quite rough and narrow. The grounds were pleasant with flowers, a swing and parking. It is possible to catch a glimpse of wild deer and Mt Fuji if you are very lucky. 5mins from...
