Super crowded but Definitely worth a visit.
Yoshinoyama's cherry blossoms typically start opening in late March or early April and reach full bloom around early to mid April. Because of the range of elevation, the blooming season is staggered by a couple of days between the Shimo (lower), Naka (middle) and Kami (upper) Senbon areas as the blossom front gradually moves up the mountain. The trees in the Oku Senbon area open considerably later.
Shuttle buses operate between Yoshino Station and the Naka Senbon area near Chikurin-in Temple from late March to late April (March 24 to April 23, 2023; 450 yen one way, 2 buses/hour). From the Naka Senbon area near Chikurin-in Temple, mini buses operate further to the Oku Senbon area of Yoshinoyama until early May (March 25 to May 7, 2023; 15 minutes, 400 yen one way, 1-2 buses/hour). After a long hike up, you are greeted with incredible views, beer and some traditional Japanese food. There is a small place where you can loose your shoes and take in the view, as well as a table to have a well earned smoke.
So glad I persevered and made it this far up. Along the way some of the most incredible scenery I have have seen.
There are also toilets and a few vending machines to cure the immediate thirst.
