This animal exhibition is so terrible that it can only be through an act of sustained malevolent purpose than pure accident or random chance. Of our time within Jardin Anamalier, we visited a plethora of depressed animals that loathed their lack of fingers, thumbs, and a loaded gun. Guinea Pig enclosures that were carpeted by overbreeding; Tortoise enclosures featured a drowned animal, while the second tortoise was being bashed upon by the Wallabies next door with a fruitbowl; and the Hippo had two options: swim in its own waste or laze on the concrete surrounding it. All exhibits were hugely overcrowded, particularly the birdcages. No attempt was made at recreating natural habitats of the animals (rainbow lorikeets given cacti to perch upon), nor did it seem like any attempt at cleaning the cages was done in a fortnight. It was insulting to see national animals suffering in terrible conditions, and it was telling the way that such a rich city treats...
Read moreFirstly, Monaco is a beautiful place, it takes pride with its ecological initiations especially marine ones, however I must say that the zoo was an absolute disgrace! The animals are clearly depressed, they are not well looked after, the water is filthy and the cage in which the birds reside in is extremely small. I understand that the zoo is very old but a rich country like Monaco should collect enough funds to proportionate good care for its animals! And I would like to point out that these animals are extraordinary creatures that do not deserve to be humiliated! The pond where you keep the hippopotamus is less than 15 meters! It’s basically a bathtub Where is the respect? These animals are depressed and lonely! I urge you to change this or to transfer them to a REAL sanctuary where they can thrive and...
Read moreI'm very sorry I visited this place. The enclosures are small and lack proper stimuli for the animals. I counted almost 40 Guinea Pigs in one enclosure and others had a mix of animals together that didn't make sense. It's very sad to see, in particular the hippo who is in a small enclosure with no company and nothing to do. It's a pity as I was enjoying my visit to Monaco up to this point. There's clearly a lot of wealth here and very little of it goes towards enriching the lives of these animals. It comes across that no one cares about this place anymore. Please avoid, the animals need to be moved elsewhere and this place needs to be shut down. I wouldn't be surprised to see a place like this in a developing country but I was so shocked to...
