A Lush Oasis of History and Beauty – A Must-Visit in Málaga La Concepción Botanical-Historical Garden is one of Málaga’s most magical hidden gems. The moment you walk through the gates, you're transported into a lush, green paradise that feels a world away from the city's hustle. This garden isn’t just beautiful – it’s also rich with history, originally created in the mid-19th century by the Loring family and later expanded by the Echevarría-Echevarrieta family. You can feel the legacy in every pathway and fountain. The collection of subtropical plants from around the world is simply stunning. Towering palm trees, vibrant bougainvillaeas, exotic flowers, and peaceful ponds create a perfect environment for a calm stroll or a romantic afternoon. The carefully maintained trails wind through shady groves, with plenty of scenic spots for taking in the beauty – or snapping unforgettable photos. Highlights include the mirador (viewpoint) with its breathtaking panorama of Málaga, the romantic ruins entwined with greenery, and the historic mansion that anchors the garden’s heritage. There’s even a small museum and plenty of informative signs in both Spanish and English, so you can learn as you explore. It’s not only perfect for nature lovers and garden enthusiasts – it’s also a great escape for anyone looking to slow down and connect with nature. The entrance fee is modest, and the experience is priceless. Pro tip: bring water, wear comfortable shoes, and give yourself time – you’ll want to stay longer than you think. Whether you're a local or a visitor, Jardín Botánico-Histórico La Concepción is an unforgettable experience that blends nature, history, and serenity in a way that few places can. Highly recommended.

Surprising hidden gem even for those who aren't very 'botanical.' The site was originally a private planting of a world wide collection of trees and shrubs begun in the 1850's and developed by a local family of wealthy industrialists. It then expanded to include a collection of Roman remains from the local area. Subsequent owners developed the original idea until the last owner fled during the Spanish civil war. The collection was then 'seized for protection' by Malaga City Council. Bits of the collection are still in various museums around Spain. Formal state ownership came in the 1990's when Málaga City took the estate over and opened it to the public. Plan on taking a couple of hours at least here as its a welcome break from the hot, noisy city. Lots of well laid out paths wind around the hillside with plenty of things to see in plants and water features. Picnic areas and toilets at strategic points too. The house in the centre is not open for viewing as it's the park admin offices but you can access the central Islamic style courtyard and toilets. Most of the walks are long and steep and uneven in places as the trails wind up the hillside. There is a very good cafe and shop attached to the garden. Now at the end of February it's very quiet and worth a visit. Downside that Malaga City has grown huge since the park was laid out and an autovia runs along one side with urban sprawl approaching from the south. Traffic noise is an issue they can't do much about.

The Jardín Botánico-Histórico La Concepción is a beautiful, well-maintained park in Malaga where one can spend hours wandering through the grounds. The pathways are well-kept and wind through an impressive collection of plants from all over the world. The changing scents of the plants are interesting and add to the relaxing atmosphere of the park. The variety of plants in Jardín Botánico-Histórico La Concepción is impressive. There are many unique and exotic species that are rarely seen in other parks. Some of the highlights include the old trees, the exotic flowers, and the palm trees. It is a great place to relax, take photos, or simply enjoy nature. Overall, Jardín Botánico-Histórico La Concepción is definitely a highlight in Malaga and a wonderful place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. The entrance fees are moderate and are worth it for the many hours one can spend in the park. If you're looking for a quiet place to enjoy nature and see a variety of plants, this park is definitely worth a visit.

Mensch!! ... if the Málaga Botanical Garden were a character in a telenovela, it’d be the faded diva clinging to her glory days, mascara smudged, and draped in a gown that’s seen far better galas. The moment you step in, you’re greeted not by the whisper of nature’s splendor but by the subtle meh of “we don’t charge enough to care.” Oh, the pathways! Once regal, now vaguely apologetic, as if they’re embarrassed by their own wear and tear. The workers? Bless them, but they embody existential despair in high-vis vests, dragging on cigarettes like extras in a noir film. And the pièce de résistance of disappointment: the highway. Yes, darling, the highway—an audacious slap in the face of what should be serenity. Forget birdsong; you’ll be serenaded by the dulcet tones of trucks rumbling past. If tranquility were a guest, it fled long ago. What could have been a lush oasis now feels like nature’s tired shrug, too world-weary to care anymore.

Lovely gardens. Apart from the sounds from the nearby motorway, it's a very tranquil place with many paths to explore. The highest forest path has good views but no shade on a hot day. The next down is the view path and it's shaded and very lovely with trees and shrubs from all over the world. There are also paths on a flat level leading to flowering shrubs and trees. We were there in May but I believe March is a very good month for spring flowers. May less so but still worth a visit whatever time of year. There's a lovely café serving drinks and food , the staff are very helpful and it's near the entrance. Plenty of toilets around the gardens. Wear good footwear as many of the paths are steep and rough ground. I would say that only the lowest section is buggy or wheelchair accessible. The number 2 bus to the terminus takes you within a 15 mins walk or take a taxi to the entrance. There is parking.

Beautiful place a for a chill day. The beginning of the garden where you have the cactuses and the flowers are a bit a let down, was expecting way more from a botanical garden. However, once you go towards the bamboo and tropical forest, well yes that’s another world. Totally magical and beautiful, the water flowing in between the trees and little cascades everywhere, totally worth it. The price was a bit of a let down, 5,20€ for adults and 3,10€ for students which I found a bit expensive. At the entrance of the garden there is a small souvenir shop but not too much options and also a café place where you can have a bite and a drink. There is also a little picnic area where you can enjoy some food you brought from home. There is a bus station nearby but currently out of service so the only way to get there and out is to come by your own car or an Uber ( 8€ from mármoles bridge.
