This museum is a great example of the splendid archeological centres found in Madaba. Ask at the centre or find a local driver who can direct you to it as it is otherwise hard to find. You will find splendid mosaics, columns, historical Bedouin clothing and archeological assemblages. The Bedouin guy working there acted as an unwanted guide, walking ahead of us and speaking phrases unintelligible except for '6th century' and '2nd century', etc. Despite his transparent (though ultimately successful) attempt to solicit a 'tip' from us by working as an impromptu 'guide' (which seems to be the trend at the most popular sites), I was glad to hear which centuries the objects came from (assuming they were true). The mosaics are a few of many incredible mosaics to be found in Madaba, and this museum, though modest, is a must-see for your day trip into the town.

Several residences inside the old quarter of Madaba joined to form the Madaba Archaeological Museum which houses mosaics from Madaba and its governorate at large. The museum is tucked away in a narrow alley, so it is not easy to find at first. The rooms host artifacts from several locations across the region covering all main historical periods including the Iron Age, Roman, Byzantine and Umayyad. This museum showcases a good collection of Moabite and Ammonite findings. The entry fee to this often overlooked museum is included in the combined ticket (3 JOD) that also covers Madaba's Archaeological Park as well as the Church of the Apostles. At the time of writing, there were plans to open a new archaeological museum closer to the center of Madaba by the Burnt Palace. Therefore, the function of this older museum might change.

Mosaics are nice but when we come to museum we enjoy tour alone. At entrance one employee followed us and made me nervous. I could hardly wait to finish the visit. He was trying to say something in bad English. To enter one part of the museum we had to skip the boxes. After the tour he asked tip. It isn’t ok. We paid tickets, didn’t ask for guiding, he were following us and after that to ask the money is rude. If Madaba wants to be touristic city , it must be stopped
