Price discrimination.... A visit to the park is unacceptable for European "foreigners". I organized and carried out an excursion with 50 children and the staff team to the zoo with our non-profit organization Karibu e.V and the director of the Mama Learning Center in Korando. The anticipation was great but unfortunately disillusionment occurred when we entered the park. The entrance fee for Kenyan adults or adults from the East African region is 215 Kenyan shillings, the equivalent of approximately 1.57 euros. However, for Europeans or other nationalities, the park charges a whopping 22 dollars on instructions from the responsible authorities in Kisumu, which is almost 11 times more, which can easily be described as outrageous and a rip-off. For children the entrance fee is 126 shillings, the equivalent of around 90 cents. So for my entrance fee of $22 I could have provided a park bed for another 22 children. That's why I decided not to enter this park. This is not about the 22 dollars but about the principle. It is sad and unbelievable that in 2024 people will be treated so unequally and that pricing will be determined based on origin or skin color. For me, the principle has always been true that people are equal regardless of skin color or origin. Those responsible at the authorities in Kisumu or the government should take an example here and rethink their rip-off scam, in this case price list. I was happy to give the children and the staff the trip as a gift and also bring in a little revenue for the park. But I remain convinced that this is price discrimination. Whether I buy a bar of chocolate as a white person or as a black person the price should...
Read moreMy visit to Impala Sanctuary Kisumu was nothing short of incredible. The sanctuary is very well maintainedâclean, organized, and surrounded by lush greenery that immediately puts you at ease. What stood out most were the animals were very majestic, healthy, and clearly well cared for. Seeing the towering giraffes, massive lions, and graceful zebras up close was such a memorable experience.
Being right next to Lake Victoria adds a whole other layer of calm and beauty. The views are stunning, and the lake breeze makes walking through the sanctuary even more enjoyable. Whether youâre into nature, photography, or just looking for a peaceful outing, this place delivers.
The staff were warm, welcoming, and always ready to assist or answer questions. Their friendliness really made the visit feel even more special.
For Kenyan citizens, entry is just Ksh 225, and if youâre driving in, the vehicle entry fee is Ksh 300 very fair prices for such a refreshing experience.
Highly recommend visiting if youâre ever in Kisumu. Itâs truly a gem you donât...
Read moreFor nature lovers, this is the ideal place in Kisumu to get away from the hustle bustle of the City and get to relax and soak yourself in the quietness of this green environment just by the lake. While taking a nature walk, you'll get to meet the zebras and sitatunga antelopes that are roaming freely in the sanctuary. There are a few animals kept; lions, warthog, ostrich, hyena, leopard etc. There's also an option of boat riding that ranges from around 15USD to 150USD depending on the time and distance of the ride. A picnic and campsite is also available but do not forget your mosquito repellents if you choose to camp. Catch the best sunset views at...
