Lovely ruined 14th / 15th century church and adjoining provosts house.

Church contains ornate tomb of Princess Margaret; daughter of King Robert III of Scotland and wife of Archibald the 4th Earl of Douglas.

Profile of sunken garden still visible to the rear. Building was once sketched by the artist Joseph Turner from across the river on his travels.

Used to be well cared for, 20 or so years ago when you had to pay a warden to enter.

Access is now free and unsupervised, so the building is regularly sprayed with grafitti and littered with broken glass and rubbish from local youths. Information panels in the church have been vandalised and removed with just the metal frames remaining.

Metal railings to perimeter are disappearing panel by panel as the bolt fixings are corroding, panels are becoming loose and then being stolen for scrap, leaving very sharp rusty sections of metal protruding at head height.

You can get a good view of the building and garden from the Motte or large hill within the grounds.

Shameful that it is being...

Building is interesting but no signs or information about the history of the site which is a huge pity. Every room was littered with broken glass/bottles and it was stressful with young children because of this as I was worried they would get hurt if they fell or if it went into their shoes. Evidence of fires also. Grounds poorly maintained with a lot of dog mess. Street parking is OK. Site has a lot of potential but needs more investment. Until this happens I would strongly advise not going it's a waste of...

The building is wonderful; atmospheric but suffers from lack of supervision. Some litter here and there. Someone seems to have tried to light a fire in the piscina. The usual bits of litter from fast food outlets. The grass is well looked after and the photos do the place proud. It’s quite fiddly to get there through a large local authority estate. Try to ignore the approach. I should have bought a bin liner and tried to...

The church is nice, but the people are not so good. The ruins of the church are ancient and have their own history. Unfortunately, some people are not so respectful and you can find some plastic and glass bottles. There was also a shirt thrown and lying there. There is no parking, you have to find it yourself.

This is a fantastic church with some of the best architecture that I have seen in Scotland the site is free and there is a small car park near the site also it isn't covered in scaffolding which most sites in Scotland seem to be at the moment well worth a visit if you are passing by

There's quite a lot of this still standing and easy to imagine how it might've been. We were very impressed! A very grand old structure. No car park but there was plenty of space for on street parking when we went. It is surrounded by grass and good for dogs.
