During my recent visit to the renewed Kaunas Zoo, I found myself thoroughly enchanted by the thoughtful improvements made to the facility. The inside terrariums, in particular, stood out as a highlight of the entire experience. These enclosures were not only aesthetically pleasing but also provided an immersive journey through diverse ecosystems. The attention to detail inside the terrariums was evident, with each habitat carefully designed to mimic the natural environment of the inhabitants. It was a treat to witness various species coexisting harmoniously, and the educational signage added depth to the overall experience, offering insights into the behaviors and adaptations of the animals. One aspect that truly stole the spotlight for me was the monkey exhibit. The primates displayed a remarkable range of behaviors, from their playful antics to their more contemplative moments. It was evident that the zookeepers had gone to great lengths to create an environment that allowed these creatures to express their natural behaviors, and the result was a captivating spectacle that left a lasting impression. Moreover, the overall ambiance of the zoo was welcoming and well-maintained. The pathways were clean, and the landscaping added a touch of tranquility to the surroundings. The staff, too, appeared knowledgeable and passionate about the animals under their care, providing valuable information and answering questions with enthusiasm. In conclusion, the renewed Kaunas Zoo exceeded my expectations. The inside terrariums offered a fascinating journey through different ecosystems, and the monkeys, with their charming personalities, added a layer of excitement to the visit. It's clear that the efforts put into the renovation have paid off, creating a more enriching and enjoyable experience for visitors of all ages.

Visited the zoo on the Easter Holiday and it was very busy. The parking lot was completely full, so I had to find street parking a little ways away. There was a long queue to buy tickets, so I recommend purchasing them in advance on the zoo’s website. This may have been due to the holiday and what turned out to be amazing Lithuanian weather. Despite some of the negative reviews I read about this zoo, I found the animal exhibits to be in wonderful condition. It was apparent the animals were well fed, cared for, and provided with appropriate enrichment items. The indoor Ecotarium building was very nice, with a one way route that allowed viewing of the species living inside. It did not appear the animals had access to their outdoor spaces that day, but could possibly be due to holiday staffing. As a note, Kaunas Zoo is a candidate for membership to EAZA, which means they have made significant strides to meet all of the EAZA’s animal care/conservation standards. TL;DR - take a visit, it’s well worth it. Only one hour from Vilnius as well.

This used to be one of the worst zoos, or maybe actually a prison for animals. After the renovation, it has become so nice and tidy and actually feels bigger than it actually is. They improved the animal habitats so much and even built new homes and introduced few new species. Compared to other zoos, this still is a lacking and expensive zoo, but I will give it five stars because the zoo did such a great job. Most animals were not seen and were inside for all the time. The egzotarium is an amazing new building housing desert animals and fish, and it is the best thing about this zoo. I found many animals missing from before the renovation, for example, seals. There is no aquarium, or at least no significant sea animal section. I think this zoo lacks land and is positioned on very weird landscape, but it has used its land well.

We had an amazing time over here at the zoo. It was not so crowded at the time we went. The zoo is located behind Kaunas University of Technology. The zoo is open from 9 am to 7 pm in summer and from 9 am to 5 pm in winters depending on the weather. The last time to buy the ticket and enter the zoo is 2 hours before the closure of the zoo. The zoo hosts a variety of species which live in the Arctic area. There are many types of cats, birds and there are African lions also. You can typically spend about 2-3 hours at the zoo. Have a good time when you visit.

A really nice zoo with a great variety of animals. Cages sometimes felt a bit small so mixed feelings about that. But animals seem to be well taken care of. We managed to walk around everything in 3,5 hours. In mid May there are no cafes, so no snacks or ice cream. The zoo closes at 20:00 but all the buildings such information center get locked at 19:00. We’ve seen monkeys, lions, tigers, rhinos, giraffes and much more. The feedings are at 16:00. There are two playgrounds in the park.
