My journey from Echternach to Mullerthal in Luxembourg was a truly remarkable experience.

If you're short on time or prefer a less strenuous hike, you can complete a portion of Route 2 from Echternach to Mullerthal in approximately 5 hours. This truncated version of the trail allows you to experience the stunning beauty of the Mullerthal region without committing to the full 38.4-kilometer trek.

Starting from Echternach, you'll wind your way through the breathtaking landscapes and rock formations that make the Mullerthal Trail famous. Some of the highlights you may encounter during this shorter hike include the fascinating rock formations of Schiessentümpel and Goldkaul.

The trail will still present a variety of terrain, such as gorges and stairs carved into rock faces, providing an enjoyable challenge for hikers. The well-maintained trail and informative boards along the way will help you navigate the trail with ease and deepen your appreciation for the region's natural wonders.

Upon arriving in Mullerthal, you can explore the local culture and take advantage of the town's accommodations to rest and recharge. This abbreviated version of Route 2 is an excellent option for those who wish to experience the beauty of the Mullerthal Trail within a...

Did the Müllerthal trail last summer and wow , what a beautiful place! The rocks and caves are super impressive, especially on Route 2 which I think is the most fun (and a bit harder too). The weather was dry, but there were still some muddy bits and my shoes were covered.. bring extra socks if you go! Some stairs were kinda slippery and my friend actually fell once, but we laughed a lot and everything was fine in the end.

It's really well marked, almost too easy to follow, so you won't get lost even if you try (I did once, but that was me not paying attention, lol). Only thing, there aren't many places to buy snacks or drinks along the way, so pack enough or you'll be hungry and thursty by the end like we were. The landscare keeps changing, tho on one part it felt like we walked forever without seeing cool rocks, just forest and even along the road, but then suddenly you’re climbing between giant boulders again., so worth it!

If you like hiking, I totally recommend this trail in Luxemburg. Just avoid the stroller, it’s not possible with so many steps and roots everywhere. And yeah, check the busd times if you are not coming by car, some stops are confusing. Overall, Müllerthal was really one of the highlights...

The signposts and information along the way ensure that you can easily navigate the route.

Moreover, the Mullerthal Trail also highlights the importance of sustainability and conservation. Efforts to protect the environment and minimize the impact of visitors are evident, preserving this stunning natural area for generations to come.

The hike through the Müllerthal was a good thing, it took me about six hours, including a few off-trail detours like the one to Kallektuffquell. Water, rock, and forest blend beautifully along the way, but the rock section is without a doubt the highlight. Numerous moss-covered formations rise from the ground, their green tones contrasting against the pale stone. These are limestone formations, shaped slowly by water and time. Some, like Goldfralay: meaning “Golden Rock” for the warm hue of its sandstone, can be climbed for rewarding views over the forest. These huge rocks are deeply creviced, and you can even walk through them, adding a sense of exploration and playfulness to the trail. For those seeking complete immersion in nature, it’s worth noting that you’ll cross at least two paved roads, and the distant sound of cars is never too far away. A small reminder that civilization isn’t entirely out of reach.

Visited this trail alone in 2020 and with my girlfriend in 2021 again. One of the most beautiful trails I've done in Western Europe. The thick forests and the imposing natural sandstone slab like structures are a wonder to watch. The place also throbs with biodiversity in the spring and summer with a plethora of birds, wild animals and flowers. I'd really recommend the hike from Echternach towards Müllerthal, with an afternoon break in Berdorf to grab some ice cream and Berdorfer cheese at the local Käserei. Echternach is quite well connected to Luxembourg City by bus and so is Müllerthal, so they're definitely good start and end points.
