This might of been a 4 star back in the 90' but no longer. It is very outdated and needs a complete make over. I would rate this hotel to be a 2.5 to 3 star hotel. They need to take the 4 stars off the front of the building. The rooms are so so. The bed is so low to the ground makes it hard to get out. The bathroom shower is a joke. The toilet seat needed replacing. They need to remove all the old carpet in the rooms and hall ways. They smell from dogs and someone smoking. The balcony was very dirty we had to clean the railing first after my wife got green moss all over her hands and arms. There was no cold beer on tap it was broken. The refrigerator in our room and the other couple had beer that the date had expired. Now as for the restaurant in it's heyday in the 90' it was a Michelin 3 forks & spoons. But not any more. We tried it one night and it was fair. Over priced for what we got. The cake we got was from Sunday and we ate it on Tuesday. What is need is to change the restaurant to a more upbeat style to attract young cycles, hikers and joggers. Prices that are more in line with who comes to stay. Make room on the side of the hotel so cycles have a place to put their bikes. Clean up the front of the hotel remove all the over grown plants. It is a very tired looking place that needs some TLC. Breakfast is at 8:30. The first morning we were there there was no food. It did not show up till 9:15 the owner had over slept. The second day I want to make 4 hard boiled eggs in the cooker. I put 2 in the water and they floated to the top. Not very good to have bad eggs for your customers. We have stayed in many hotels in the Echternach area over the years and we very disappointed over this hotel. If they do not make changes I see them having to close this hotel just like the one that is 100 meter down the street from them. It is a great place to hike from and we did our fair share of it. But would not stay here again. There are many other ones that are...
Read moreI stayed there with my wife for 4 nights our experience was not so good. The Hotel room was clean but the carpet was very old. The Bathroom looked like it was build in the 70ties and has never ever been renovated since then. All the appliances were very old, but they still worked at least. The towels were very old and used at least a 1000 times. There is no cost in exchanging towels once a year. The bed was very comfortable, but the sheets were very short, we are both very tall people. We liked the overall theme of the Cigalon that was found everywhere.
The Hotel overall looked very dated but was charming. We liked that.
The Breakfast was not very good. The coffee tasted horrible and the selection was ok but very limited. One day we clearly saw and tasted that the whole breakfast was leftover from the day before. The bread and the fruit were clearly not fresh. Sometimes we also had to wait quite some time for someone to notice us at the breakfast table and bring us coffee.
We did not have the chance to go to the excellent Restaurant, but we heard that the food is amazing there.
Overall our experience was not that satisfying. We recommend this hotel for one or maximum two nights on a road trip, but not to stay longer. We also paid way to much per night as it is worth. One night should cost 70 - 80€ maximum for the dated facilities that this...
Read moreVery poor service. Not even worth 1 star. Not suited for small children (who can't wait 1,5 hours for their food). Stay: Hotel clearly doesn't deserve 4 Stars : Broken bed for child only made with some fleece blankets thrown on it. Broken glas (!!!) behind the minibar. Bathtub not clean. All that in the expensive Cigalon Suite. Food: Can't say if it's good we never got any. We were rushed from the bar to the restaurant by the owner at 19:00 then waited till 20:25 before the appetizers came. NO bread on the table, NO napkins, NO excuses on why they were running so late, others also complained. All the other tables got there after us and had food an wine long before us. As the appetizers finally came we were told, that nothing was prepared for our toddler although the owner told us on arrival that everything was taken care of and what our child would get as dinner. At that point we left. We were told, that there was no problem in the kitchen, that they d' always start at 19:30 and that we only had to wait for half an hour. On top on calling us liars, they charged us a Halfboard Package (at least left out the dinner-menus) so instead of 180€ for a room we didn't sleep in, we had...
