Bukit Gasing is a good beginner-intermediate track for hikers.
Parking (free) is available, and it is a 5 minutes walk from the entrance (gmaps it). The public toilet is next to the parking lot.
As the name implies, the track is like a spiral top. You have multiple branches that can lead you to the peak. It's very easy to get lost, I noticed other climbers apart from me had issues finding the entrance to exit. I ended up using Google maps (I know it's not the best hiking maps) to track which trail I'm following to get out.
Throughout my hike, I noticed from the signboard posted by the local council informing me when I'm passing through the borders of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, so that's cool.
The geography had a lot of ups and downs, and this is the hidden challenge of Bukit Gasing. One moment you're going up, the next you're going down. Energy depletion is much faster due to this. I highly recommend hiking sticks if you can afford one, and bring snacks/lunch to get extra energy.
At every checkpoint you can find seats to rest on, though their cleanliness is dependent on the weather.
Fun stops would be the suspension bridge, peak, and fence trail.
While the flora is typical of Malaysian city forests, you will be greeted by monkeys, squirrels, lots of types of lizards, etc. Be careful taking out food when monkeys are around though.
Overall, I think it was a pretty good place for above average beginners to hike. They do need better sign postage to direct people to the...
Read morecorner of green, and tranquility. this area is best understood as two river valleys, one each on the PJ and KL sides, separated by high ground. best way to navigate is to understand which hill and stream immediately proximate.
temple hill is the highest elevation, and accessible via various trails to the right of the gasing entrance. best experience is to time arrival for sunset. sacramental meal of fermented fruit salad is perfect boost for rest of hike.
hill denizens include monkeys, biawak, turtles, chicken and dogs. the dogs conduct patrols around the temple, and wear scarves when on duty. they generally eschew the human trails as not worthy of their time, and are able to traverse vertically. the monkeys feed immediately outside the temple, but will occasionally approach people. treat with respect in all cases.
night hikes are fine, but watch your step. use red light rather than white. it's more gentle, and attracts less attention from the...
Read moreFirst time here for my 2024 Christmas Day hiking, was raining initially when we arrived around 8am hence we decided to go for breakfast and come back again around 9am+ when the rain has stopped
Level of difficulty I would personally rate it at 2.5/5, interesting stop point would be the one way Hanging Bridge aka Jambatan Gantung which I find it to be quite scary and thrilling at the same time. And another one would be the Stairway to Heaven where it can be used as a great training grounds if you are planning to go Mount KK haha, we did loop back and did the stairway twice before heading back to the entrance
Overall it is a good experience and the crowd is just not too much after 9am, it seems if you are a early bird, then you might see more people here xD recommended for sure ;)
I park my car beside the road around the neighbourhood area before the playground area, there is a parking lot available up above with public toilet...
