Merdekarya is like an abusive partner you just can't leave. Night after night you come home to them only to have them sorely disappoint you with their performance. It's where some dreams come to die. But you hang on anyways....
You hang on because every once in a while you see something that inspires you and makes you feel like picking up that dusty guitar again. It makes you feel alive. Like every musical dumpster fire you sat through was just a test of your faith all along. That girl with the ukulele who knows 2 songs was just the personification of Chris Brown beating Rihanna to sell records. It whets the appetite.
And that's the kind of lover Merdekarya is. It ties you up, beats your bloody, tears up your hopes and dreams, but still has you coming back for more. 10/10 would have their hopes...
Read moreI went to Merdekarya to unwind during my mental health break, it was such a great plan apparently, the place definitely was loud as a live bar on a Saturday night should be but on the other hand it gave me a peace of mind that I craved so much. I ordered Langkau Orange and Cardamom along with a Tuak Lychee Special and a mocktail called ”Masuk Balai" which tasted amazing. I had the privilege to watch and listen to live music by Marco George and the band, loved the song "One Day" by the way!!
PS: Also met a very cute tabby along the way to Merdekarya too! A blessed...
Read moreFood: I ordered Nasi Babi Peratal and it was quite delicious. but one caveat, it can use a bit more salt then it will be perfect.
Drinks: THE GINGER BEER IS TO DIE FOR!! I was really tempted to bring some back home but was not in the capacity to do so. Also tried the tuak asamboi and lime, very nice but a tad bit sweet for me.
Ambiance: It's very serene, sitting at The Balcony and just listening to splendid choice of local songs. Hoping I could see live music here someday. What an odd situation that other restaurants can do live music but Merdekarya...
