Guraidhoo — Attraction in Malé Atoll

Guraidhoo (Dhivehi: ގުރައިދޫ) is one of the inhabited islands of Kaafu Atoll in the Maldives. It is located in South Malé Atoll. Guraidhoo is about 31.68km from the airport - the only way you can reach it is by boat. Guraidhoo, a local island geographically recognized for its famous surfing and turtle snorkeling dolphin sand banks and diving spots.

Getting to Guraidhoo To reach the hotels in guraidhoo Island, a public ferryboat OR chartered speedboat can be arranged by the hotel for which payment will be collected upon check –in. Please contact the hotel to book your transfer arrangement at least 3 days prior to your arrival. Your arrival and departure flight details and full names of traveling party will be required. You will need to transfer from the airport to Male by ferry - this goes most of the time and frequently and will cost US$1. Locally arranged airport pickups can be very unreliable.

Public Ferryboat Ferryboat takes 120 minutes to reach Guraidhoo Island and costs approximately USD 2.00 per person per way. Ferry departs from Male’ at 14:30 hrs / Ferry departs from Guraidhoo Island at 07:00 hrs, there is lot speedboat transfer to Guraidhoo it cost 30$ per person per way. it can arrange by guest house, they'll reserve your sheet if you contact them. If your flight lands AFTER 21:30 hrs, you will need to take the speedboat transfer or make arrangements to stay in Male’ NO Ferry services on Friday, Friday only speedboat transfer available.

Infrastructure Guraidhoo has about 1800 locals but the population can rise to over 2500 as Guraidhoo also home for special need people, and only and only mental hospital in Maldives. There are many shops that sell the basic necessities and a few big souvenir shops as well.

Tourism Information Guraidhoo is less than a km long and wide. There is a semi legal bikini beach and a seasonal surf beach. There are restaurant which is an easygoing affair selling meals starting from US$3. There is no alcohol obtainable on the island. The staple diet contains tuna and coconut. The kitchen is simple but good. There are no dogs on the island but a few cats. Wildlife are birds and bats

The Locals are very quiet - rarely a loud noise from the men and never from the women. The men are relatively easy going. Muslim faith is upheld thus most women are in hijab. There is no deliberate thieving or violent crime from locals. However, be aware of dishonest conduct such as overcharging visitors etc.

Guraidhoo is ideal for the budget conscious traveller that wants to have a relaxing holiday and see a bit of local life. Snorkelling tours etc can be booked. Небольшой островок. Покушать почти негде. Есть одно местное кафе (рядом с улицей магазинчиков) на втором этаже, где местные мужчины смотрели проходящее соревнование на Олимпиаде в Рио среди женщин по спортивной гимнастике)) В остальном поесть можно только в гостевых домах, или купив еду в магазине, если не считать своего гостевого дома (мы были в одном из недорогих Raabol Inn). Достаточно грязно. Есть огромная свалка мусора как раз на пути к острову для туристов, на котором тоже достаточно мусорно. Загорать в бикини можно только на этом острове Лосфуши. Переход пролива между островом Гурайду и островом Лосфуши через брод. Утром воды по колено, к вечеру воды по грудь, несем вещи, держа над головой. Но именно в день нашего приезда начали строить мостик. Это плюс для будущих посетителей. Правда нам не повезло, что работы начали именно в этот день, поэтому на острове, где должны быть только туристы, вдруг оказались рабочие (работники из гостевых домов). Мало того подожгли свалку мусор, кругом был дым. В целом понравилось, но одного дня хватило, хотя некоторые туристы приезжали на этот остров на целую неделю. Были в августе. Принято считать это сезоном ветров и дождей, но за 3 недели дождь целыми днями шёл только 3 дня подряд. Северный пляж не для загорания в бикини. Мусор присутствует.
