This place is magical especially in winter, with the lovely sea breeze and golden sand. Perfect to take the kids to fly a kite or play beach games. The sea temperature never drops too low but swimming in bad weather is not advisable and strong currents are very common. If you don’t see the locals swimming then stay out of the water. The location is home to a lot of history - there are the remains of a Roman villa (on the left side of the beach) where a lot of terracotta amphoras were found. On the far right of the beach one can find a massive boulder with a cylindrical hole bored in it. This was a primitive type of cannon known locally as “fugass”. There is also an underwater wall which had been built to prevent vessels coming in to shore. There is also a wreck which emerges from under the sand (under the water) depending on the sea currents. The beach is extremely busy in summer as it is the biggest beach on the island. There are Lifeguards posted throughout the day and access to the beach in summer is through a boardwalk, although it is very difficult to get into the water if you are confined to a wheelchair. There are showers (which have been closed due to covid ) and public toilets. There are two restaurants, with the smaller one being much better to eat at. Many food vans are on the main road with some interesting options. One can buy inflatable mattresses and other beach paraphernalia from the vans close by including fresh local fruit. One will be pestered by deck chair/umbrella rentals which are not worth it if you are going to be there for a short time or you intend to go down late to the beach as these people start to dismantle their business round about 1700 to 1800. There are water sports like pedalboats, canoes, speed boats and others. One word of advice, take some thing to clean your feet from the sand before you enter the car, especially if...

Ramla Bay is a stunning beach located on the northern coast of the island of Malta. It is one of the most beautiful beaches in Malta and is renowned for its crystal-clear waters and golden sand. The beach is situated in the town of Xaghra, which is located on the eastern coast of the island.

Ramla Bay is a natural bay, with a large expanse of sand that stretches over 800 meters in length. The sand is soft and golden in color, which makes it a perfect spot for sunbathing and relaxing. The waters of Ramla Bay are calm and clear, making it an ideal place for swimming, snorkeling, and other water activities.

One of the most unique features of Ramla Bay is the surrounding countryside. The beach is situated in a valley that is surrounded by green hills and fields. This creates a picturesque setting that is both peaceful and idyllic. There are also several trails in the area that offer hikers and nature lovers the opportunity to explore the surrounding countryside.

Ramla Bay is also home to a number of historical sites and landmarks. One of the most notable is Calypso's Cave, which is located on the western side of the beach. According to legend, this cave was the home of the nymph Calypso, who held the Greek hero Odysseus captive for seven years.

In addition to its natural beauty and historical significance, Ramla Bay is also a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. There are a number of facilities on the beach, including restaurants, bars, and shops, as well as a number of water sports equipment rental shops.

Overall, Ramla Bay is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Malta. Its stunning natural beauty, clear waters, and unique historical significance make it one of the most popular beaches in the country. Whether you're looking to relax and soak up the sun, or explore the surrounding countryside, Ramla Bay has something...

Our favourite beach in north Gozo! Sandy, and wide, including in peak season it will not feel like hopeless crowded. A couple of bars at the entrance of the beach help your beach day planning: not too much to carry: you just can go there and enjoy the beach Matese cuisine (pizzas and pastas, and the salads are worth it. Ice creams and drinks). Also they have a parasol and sun beds service, that you can rent for the day or half day. In the peak of the summer season a must. Also recommended to bring your own parasol and a lot of UV protective cream! You have to find the good entrance into the sea. It has a shallow bottom, but in many places very rocky after the sandy bottom. I will recommend to have rock shoes and use them. You can easily swim until the line that protects the swimmers from the boat berthing area. There the depth is going to be 2 or 3 meters max. I never found strong currents but always be careful: you are now 50 to 70 meters from the shore (I estimated). Also you can explore the hills to the east and west if you feel a little bit more adventurous. Regarding parking there are 2 areas closer to the beach, but unless you arrive early (before 10:00am) or in the late afternoon, they will be packed. Also it is possible to park on the entry road, but usually you will have to walk up to...

The only actual beach on Gozo, which was a nice change for the kids in our family. We all had a great time, at a beach we’ve been going to for two decades, and seen becoming more and more popular with tourists. I see in the reviews that people talk of rocks and not actual sand. The beaches of Gozo are strongly affected by heavy weather, meaning the rock/sand distribution can change quite abruptly. For us this was not a problem, we went a bit over half the beach, towards west, where there was plenty of sand and easy access to the water for the kids. I really can’t understand the “complaints”. A big plus is the shapeability of the sand, meaning the kids loved to play in the sand! Water was lovely, with a few waves, which was just fun. More than pleasant temperature, even in October. Probably around 27 degrees. The popularity has both positive and negative sides. Negative, as there are more tourists, however this was not a problem now in early October. Positive, as there are easy access to sunbeds and decent food, ice cream and toy store for the kids. Really good day at the beach, and a nice change from the rocky cliffs and stoney beaches of Gozo. NB: during summer, the sand becomes dangerously hot to walk on barefeet.

I once heard Madonna the singer posed in front of Madonna statue in Ramla Beach. I guess it is not true. This evening picture shows the glow of lights from Sicily. There’s a well-known statue on Ramla Beach in Gozo, Malta—called Our Lady of Hope—which depicts the Virgin Mary (sometimes referred to as Madonna) and the infant Jesus. It was originally erected in 1881 by John (Ġanni) Gauci to safeguard sailors, replaced in 1966, and restored in recent years However, the singer Madonna has not been seen posing by this statue. There are no credible photos, reports, or social‑media evidence indicating that she visited Ramla Bay and posed in front of the Madonna statue. It seems like a mix-up of names: “Madonna” (the pop icon) versus “Madonna” (an Italian term for the Virgin Mary). In this case, they overlap in English, but there’s no real connection between the singer and the beach statue. In summary: Statue of Our Lady of Hope is real and historic. No indication Madonna (the performer) ever posed there. Likely just a name coincidence.
