Beautiful spot with some quite secluded beaches due to the expense of getting there by boat. We paid 500 rupees each return to a guy in Trou d'Eau Douce and only had to pay him after he brought us back in his sky blue boat. A very nice guy who would have brought us back at any time we chose. Before this we enquired at a place which cannily had put signs up claiming to be the 'public' ferry service and were charging double... theyre some distance outside of Trou d'Eau Douce and we felt we were being conned, they also wanted cash upfront and would only bring you back at 4:30pm (when all the shops close on the island).
The island is worth going to see. Its quite windy on the east facing coast, but there are some excellent beaches and it is possible to find small spots sheltered by the trees etc. However, as theyre on the East of the island, you really want to arrive fairly early as the sun sets on the west and it will soon be behind the tall casuarina trees if youre seeking shelter near them.
Snorkeling around these beaches I can confirm there are THOUSANDS of sea urchins so shoes in the sea are important. However the beaches are clean, quiet and...
Read moreThis is the top tourist attraction in Mauritius! It is a beautiful place, but sadly it has changed from the photos that appear here. We were there in September 2023. The Eastern end of the channel is now blocked off from the sea, so it's effectively a cul de sac of water! Saying that it was still very pleasant to swim in, although very shallow, only a few feet deep! The island is, however, ridiculously busy!! Many tours arrive during the day, you won't be alone! We did it as a catamaran tour from the mainland. We only had about 90 mins on the island which wasn't really long enough to relax there, sadly. I'd recommend a speedboat tour to give you longer on the island if that's what you want? There are many activities available to book there too, parasailing, tube riding etc, but I didn't feel pressured to buy any. There are also just a few food outlets available and some tourist souvenir shops where I bought a wooden dodo! Do go, but be prepared for...
Read moreGreat experience and amaizing scenery. It is like 5 stars camping with a private beach. The best bubble by far is the lake bubble. You got to have your own private lake the ocean is few steps away. By about 4:30 pm, all visitors usually leaves the island and we have it all to our selves. We were lucky that it was full moon at night but a bit cloudy. We liked the food and we had a romantic dinner set up next to the club house there, and it was amazing. We were lucky to also try the banian tree bubble. The bubble is surrounded by tall trees and there is a private yard with a swing chair and a round table and chairs. Great nature in the morning and a litte spooky at night. The public beach is beautiful and there are lots of activities. Finally, the staff and the service are great. You get to have your own butler, who will take you around the island at your request. We had a great memorable...
