The Champs de Mars (CdM) is a historical and unique place in Mauritius situated in the heart of the capital. It has become a great tourist attraction and horse lovers including kids to enjoy horse racing events in Mauritius. Horse racing is a national passion which gathered thousands of Mauritians on each race day. At champ de mars, there is one racetrack, 3 different categories of stands. One is called 'la plaine', its open and free to anyone want to bet and watch the race. The 2nd one is called 'gradin' and the 3rd one is called the 'lodge' which includes VIP Boxes as well. The VIP Boxes are strategically well situated with an open balcony offering you a clear view of each race from start to finish. From here you'll get right to the heart of the racing action and feel the thrilling ambience with comfort and individual packages such as foods, snacks, alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks, etc. The Mauritius Turf Club(MTC) is the sole authority to organize racecourse in Mauritius. The MTC offers a full season of horse racing, running from March through December and features one weekend of international meeting. The season includes a calendar of Classic and Semi-Classic horse race held on Sunday's and the most awaited one is the Maiden Cup where you can expect over 50,000 of islanders on that day. On each race day there is a total of 8 and sometimes 9 races at an interval of 35 minutes starting from ~1230-1700. Bookmakers are everywhere in the compound and bettings are allowed in Mauritius. Restroom and parking are available. Foodcourts are available and street vendors as well where you can enjoy tasty Mauritian traditional foods. Alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks are allowed in the available bars. To reach Champ de Mars is very easy either by your own car, public bus, by foot or grab a taxi.

Have great fun and good luck if you've placed your bet...

Champ des Mars is a historical place in Mauritius. It is the place where the official transition took place when Mauritius acceded to Independence in 1968.

It is also the place that recorded the record number of people (200,000) for a political gathering after the General Election of 1982, where the MMM/PSM recorded a flat score of 60-0 for the first of two times in Mauritian History.

However, Champ des Mars is mainly known for horse racing which has been hosted over there since the 25th June 1812. It is the oldest racecourse in the Southern Hemisphere and the second oldest in the world.

Champs des Mars has also been a leisure place for the capital’s inhabitant to visit on summer Sunday afternoons for family time to evade the hot climate.

People chose Champs des Mars to practice sports such as football, jogging, walking, handball, running, exercises for keeping fit, etc.

Throughout ages Champs des Mars has been a popular place for Driving...

I was born not very far.Champ De Mars turned out to be my Playground as I grew up, spending countless hours covering every blade of grass and tarmac of this "GREAT CIRCUIT". Jogging.Cycling.Playing Football, Volleyball, Basketball.Watching Horse Training in the early hours during Racing seasons. In the evening on hot nights it was and still an attraction for cool air/breeze from its Gorgeous, surrounding Moutains and Hills. Champ de Mars is Home for The Mauritius Turf Club.A very able, efficient Organization looking after the Horse Racing side of it to the very latest in technology. It is known that Mauritius was the oldest in the Southern hemisphere of the Indian Ocean to take up Horse Racing and continues up this day.An immaculate racing track lies before one's eye.CdM for me is Unique,to be cherished and fond memories abound.. So Enjoy the Vista when in Mauritius. More...

Horse racing track in Port Louis. Races are held on Saturdays, but it is seasonal. You can get a local to accompany you and place a bet, or just drive your car inside and watch the horses pass by you for an amazing experience. The main event is the 4th race. Don't worry, the doors open after every race so you can drive outside of the track.

Well, this is the only racecourse in Mauritius so there is nothing to compare.they do horserace on every Saturday through the year except December to March (approx not sure about duration). If you want to try your luck or gamble on horserace this is the place you can go. People come for jogging and walking here, usually in the morning.
