The Champs de Mars (CdM) is a historical and unique place in Mauritius situated in the heart of the capital. It has become a great tourist attraction and horse lovers including kids to enjoy horse racing events in Mauritius. Horse racing is a national passion which gathered thousands of Mauritians on each race day. At champ de mars, there is one racetrack, 3 different categories of stands. One is called 'la plaine', its open and free to anyone want to bet and watch the race. The 2nd one is called 'gradin' and the 3rd one is called the 'lodge' which includes VIP Boxes as well. The VIP Boxes are strategically well situated with an open balcony offering you a clear view of each race from start to finish. From here you'll get right to the heart of the racing action and feel the thrilling ambience with comfort and individual packages such as foods, snacks, alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks, etc. The Mauritius Turf Club(MTC) is the sole authority to organize racecourse in Mauritius. The MTC offers a full season of horse racing, running from March through December and features one weekend of international meeting. The season includes a calendar of Classic and Semi-Classic horse race held on Sunday's and the most awaited one is the Maiden Cup where you can expect over 50,000 of islanders on that day. On each race day there is a total of 8 and sometimes 9 races at an interval of 35 minutes starting from ~1230-1700. Bookmakers are everywhere in the compound and bettings are allowed in Mauritius. Restroom and parking are available. Foodcourts are available and street vendors as well where you can enjoy tasty Mauritian traditional foods. Alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks are allowed in the available bars. To reach Champ de Mars is very easy either by your own car, public bus, by foot or grab a taxi.
