Slave Route Monument — Attraction in Le Morne

A little park area that contains multiple art pieces that are carved in stone. The art pieces commemorate the enslaved people of Mauritius. This is a lovely park to relax and to also engage with the culturally significant area. The art pieces overlook Le Morne itself and provides a timely reminder of the suffering that the enslaved people endured. It’s an area of reflection, inspiration and positivity as you walk through the park.

We travelled around 2 hours from the other side of the island, but despite the information on Google telling us it was open, they had locked up and gone home early. Therefore we could not enter. Pretty amazing story and a beautiful spot but the monument is pretty lackluster. The monument itself has been closed and locked behind a gate the three times I've very been there.
