The monument of Pointe Canon is a historical one, commemorating the abolition of slavery. It was unveiled by the Governor General of the time, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, who wanted to commemorate the sacrifices, pain and suffering of the slaves, but also their courage and strength throughout their actions, thereby highlighting the positive values that the slaves embodied.

Pointe Canon is a scenic lookout located in the historic town of Mahebourg, on the southeast coast of Mauritius. The lookout offers visitors breathtaking views of the bay and is a popular spot for photography, sightseeing, and taking in the local scenery.

The lookout is situated on a hill overlooking the bay, offering visitors a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. It's an ideal spot for watching the sunrise or sunset, as well as taking in the colorful boats and fishing vessels that come in and out of the harbor.

One of the main attractions of Pointe Canon is its historic significance. The area was once home to a Dutch fortification built in the 17th century, and visitors can still see the remains of the fortification, including a restored cannon that gives the lookout its name.

In addition to its historical significance, Pointe Canon is also home to several local vendors and artisanal shops selling a range of souvenirs, crafts, and local delicacies.

Visitors can also explore the nearby town of Mahebourg, which is rich in history and culture, with several local landmarks nearby, including the Mahebourg Naval Museum, the Frederik Hendrik Museum, and the Mahebourg Waterfront.

Overall, Pointe Canon is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Mauritius, particularly for those interested in history and culture. Its stunning views, historical significance, and nearby attractions make it an unforgettable experience for...
