Sagar Shiv Mandir Hindu Temple — Attraction in undefined

BE CAREFUL. The place is astonishing, really outstanding location, serene atmosphere and beautiful art inside. However BE CAREFUL.

Once there, a guy in relation with a temple started giving us an explanation about the temple and its history and meaning. Really nice and educated speech. But at the end when we were about to do a donation, he asked us to buy one of the bracelets they do there. We decided to buy two of them in order to be polite and grateful to the guy and then… once he blessed them with holy water he asked almost 40 EUROS for them (1500 ruppies).

May be we were naive to not refuse to pay to a man related with the temple, being inside a holy place, being in front of his kids to who he just introduce us… Its true we didn't ask the price in advance for a little souvenir bracelet...

But we wasn’t expecting that, it was really unpleasant and violent. It just didn’t felt right, it wasn’t right from them...to not say a bigger uglier word.

Apart from the feeling of have being scammed, it felt it like a disgrace from their side using a holy place to push people to feel guilty in order to force them to buy overpriced...

I never knew this idyllic temple and general place existed, even though parents and me drove very close to it,to go to the Saint Geran hotel some 20 - 25 yrs ago... So on January 3rd 2023, the girlfriend, mum and me randomly ended at the Sagar Shiv Mandir Hindu Temple,to only be amazed by its surrounding views of the sea, which, in my humble opinion, made it THE most beautiful and peaceful hindu temple in and around Mauritius.
