Galeria Atotonilco — Attraction in Guanajuato

Disappointing experience. As young artists interested in local art we were met with no hospitality. We were only silently followed around while older white guests were given entirely different treatment. After purchasing a piece, we asked if a taxi could be called (as there is no service). At first we were told yes and then that there were no taxis. When we asked for the wifi password we were told there was not any. She told us to walk and promptly left to speak to other customers. This gallery is about ten miles from San Miguel de Allende. The drive to get there is beautiful, and the effort is very worthwhile. The curator has carefully selected the very best artisan wares from States throughout Mexico and other locations around Latin America. Visiting Valeria Atotonilco was an incredible experience. The gallery has stellar works of art work from around the country including ceramics, textiles, and a wide variety of hand painted objects. There are also works by renowned contemporary artists in a stunning setting that is a short taxi ride (25 minutes) outside of San Miguel de Allende near the Laja River, thermal springs, and the beautiful and historic Santuario de Atotonilco.
